For those that have home games and are thinking about buying a table there are a few options:
1. you can buy a mass manufactured table that is often lower quality and overpriced.
2. you can buy from a custom table builder. The quality is usually better, but the tables are so heavy that shipping costs a mint.

The only way to avoid multi hundred dollar shipping charges is to buy from a builder near where you live. There is a new site that so far has combined over 40 different builders into one cooperative: http://www.pokertablebuilders.com

It is in early stages, but likely will gain more builders and improve as the various contributors have more time. Check back periodically to see if there is one near where you live.

SPAM disclaimer: the site is a not-for-profit coop supported by optional donations from the builders who list themselves there. Nobody is making money from the site.
