okay as I further expand my music library I am looking for some old R&B soul from the late 50's through the early 70's. I am hoping all the old farts on here can assist me in this endeavour. I like stuff like Al Green, Marvin, O'Jays, Ray Charles, basically all that old stuff, hook me up guys!!!!!!!!!

The Very Best of Sam and Dave (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000033GQ/qid=1106757225/sr=8-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-0822911-0405603?v=glance&s=music&n=507846) is one of my favorite albums of all time. Every track is fantastic.

All of the really early Stevie Wonder is awesome. Also, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Otis Clay, Carla and Rufus Thomas, Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Martha and the Vandellas.

Definately get Donny Hathaway's Live album (entitled simply "Live") Its mostly got a more funk feel to it than the older RnB but its amazing...

Definately get Sam Cooke's "Live at Harlem Square"

Otis Reddings live albums are always quality, and theres a cd of prev. unreleased stuff of his on the Stax label I believe. You might as well just go get an Otis Redding box set, as he is one of the best.

Curtis Mayfield is always good. Get "Roots", "Superfly", and the live one (might just be called "Live" cant remember)

Al Green: Forget the Greatest hits album, get "Green is Blues", "Im Still in Love With You", and "Call Me"

There are some decent compilations out there as well. Check out "Eccentric Soul: The Capsoul Label" Good stuff unearthed by archivists...

btw, Im not an old fart, just a big fan of R&B, Soul and Funk

If you're just looking for songs like the rap thread, get "I'm your puppet" by the stylistics. Other than that, everybody already mentioned everything that I would. James Brown and Marvin Gaye being the only exceptions. But those are obvious. If you can avoid it, never listen to the elton john version of "lucy in the sky with diamonds," I know that's not what you asked, but as of a minute ago, I feel it's my duty to keep people from making the same mistake I did.

Im Your Puppet is also done by a group called "James and Bobby Purify" -Never heard the Stylistics do it, gotta check that out.

I forgot to mention the Spinners before...a greatest hits thing should do, as long as it has "Ill be Around" "Im Going Home" "Rubberband Man" "Working My Way Back to You" and "Its a Shame"

Get the Superfly soundtrack. Curtis Mayfield is the man.

More funk than R&B, but it needs to be in your collection. You'd do well with some early Parliament too, though you'll be disappointed by ho many hip hop acts rip them off.

Don't fail to check out James Brown, Aretha Franklin & Glaydis Knight and the Pips.

If I were you, I'd go by a second-hand cd store and buy some 60's Motown compilations. I see plenty of them in the racks for a few bucks apiece. There are too many great performers to mention, really, and this would be a way to find people you like...

get Billy Paul's Me and Mrs. Jones. It'll help you with your quest for a new genre and your search of game with females.
