View Full Version : Paradise, here we go again with the "fix"

05-13-2002, 03:51 PM
Well, I had boycotted Paradise for many months now, focusing on more profitable prospects elsewhere, st sites I have higher "trust" in. You know, the old juiced board quads and straight flush etc. thing at paradise got to be too much.

But I just couldn't resist checking out the no limit games at Paradise. So, I bought back in this weekend. Here's my first hand at this no limit $50 table I bought into. Not a great hand (or great play particularly), on my part, but beaten by Quads when I make my straight the very first hand??

And then of course, a few hands later in the same game, I see someone make the obligatory straight flush. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Yeah yeah, I know, same thing could have happened in a B&M room, blah blah blah, whining sore loser who can't play worth a damn, blah blah blah. Sorry, I just don't buy it. Seen this way too much on Paradise.

whining sore loser who can't play worth a damn

I hope I'm not violating the rules of this forum by actually commenting on a hand rather than engaging in some silly conspiracy theory.

Concerning the 66 hand:

Well, you did bet $9 into a $10 pot with an unimproved pair of 6's- unless you consider a backdoor straight draw improvement. Granted, you are last to act and need to exploit that advantage. When you got called, did you really believe that your opponent couldn't beat 6's up?

Then, on the turn, you bet $22 into a $34 pot heads-up (all-in is now irrelevent). What do you think this guy is calling with that can't beat 6's up? You should have checked an been thrilled he gave you a free shot to make your straight. His call on the flop should have aroused your suspicion.

On the river, he bets into you and you raise? What were you thinking? It should be more obvious than ever that he was slowplaying is is hoping you'll pay off a meager $15 bet in this $78 pot. Raising with a stiff 6 on a paired board here is extremely poor no-limit play.

Your flop bet is good only because you have the advantage of the position. Your turn bet is very foolish. On the river, you barely have a crying call.
