1000 points for a $5000 freeroll, 2500 player max. Other freerolls starting as low as 50 points.

I'm not big fan of 2500 player freerolls, but it sure beats a suede jacket. The announcement page mentions more stuff to be added soon.

My wishlist would be to see some higher limit SNG's or Steps entries for points.

assuming that registration hits the max 2500 entries each time (who knows), the PP points are valued at 0.2 cents each:

freeroll prize pool $5000 divided by 2500 entries = $2 per entry
$2 entry divided by 1000 points = 0.2 cents per point

and then proportoinally it's the same:
free roll prize pool $1250 divided by 2500 entries = 50c per entry
50c entry divided by 250 points = 0.2 cents per point

and so forth.

taking that 0.2c point rate then converts to the following "real world" prices of the PP merch swag:

Baseball Shirt - 1500 points x 0.2 cents = $3.00
Beanie - 500 x 0.2 = $1.00
Cap - $0.80
'Hawaiian' Shirt - $6.00
Polo Shirt - $4.00
Visor - $0.70 (stock up!!)
Suede Jacket - $20.00
Tote Bag - $3.00

so here are my opinions about how to value PP points:

1. the freeroll prize pools appear to be guaranteed regardless of the number of entries. so by selecting a tourney that has less than the maximum 2500 entrants, your PP points spent are thus proportionally higher.

2. if you do like one of the PP merch items, it is probably worth it if you perceive it to be cheaper (points wise) than what you'd pay for it in cash. In other words, if you went into a store and saw a PP suede jacket on sale for $20, would you buy it? If so, then don't be embarassed to redeem points for merch - it's really not a bad deal.

3. On the other hand, if you feel that your EV on tourney money is higher than the flat 0.2c per point rate at face value, then by all means head on over to the freerolls.

4. Getting essentially a free entry to a $5000 guaranteed freeroll (1000 points) just for depositing $500 or more at PP for 7 days is pretty impressive. $2.00+ a week for a $500 capital investment works out to over 20% annual interest of cash equivalent. now that's offshore banking at its best!

Nice evaluation of promotional value.

I just read through the "rules" page, and since you get 1,000 PP points just for depositing $500, is there any reason you couldn't make several such deposits and subsequent withdrawals throughout the course of a week to "whore" points? Hell, that's a few $5,000 freerolls every week you could get just by making deposits/withdrawals.

Here's an attempt to use one of today's tournaments as a guide to how much these things are worth:

There's a 100 point freeroll ($500 prize pool) with 450 players playing.

$500/450 = $1.11 entry

$1.11/100 = 1.1 cents per point

On the bright side, it's likely (at least in the long run) that fewer people will sign up for the big ones, meaning you'll be getting more out of your points.

it's actually likely that these freerolls won't come close to filling up to the max, especially considering that Party is gonna be running them *every single day*.

I remember that the player point freerolls at pokerroom also never fill up completely, and I'd assume that UB and Absolute don't either. so perhaps we'll manage to squeeze out a few whole pennies out of each point rather than fractions.

I guess the next thing to figure out is the static point earning rate values for Party Poker vs. major competitors, particularly Poker Stars FPP's.

Only 282 players signed up in the 1000 point freeroll which starts in 1.5 hours. First place pays $1050 and 30th pays $50. Seems like a great freeroll opportunity to me.

When I order something where does it ship? Just to my default address? Or can I tell it to ship somewhere else?

playersare
01-25-2005, 05:55 PM
make sure your mailing address on file is correct BEFORE you place your merch order, because that is the only place they will ship your package. Party Poker emphasizes this on their shopping page.

go with the freerolls then. the early reports coming in appear to show tremendous overlay value which may start decreasing once the word gets out.

$2 EV for a tournament is pretty low hourly wage (aka waste of time).

You need to keep the deposit in your account for 7 days to receive the points, so yes, you could whore them, but if you are making multiple deposits/withdrawals, i'm not sure how they calculate which deposits you would get points for, and which ones you wouldn't.

You know I thought that at first too, but I read the language closely and they say you can't "redeem" within 7 days, but I read that to mean you can't use the points to purchase anything or play a freeroll w/in 7 days, not that you can't WITHDRAW FUNDS. In fact, that's the only reading that makes sense the more i think about it.

This is what it says at their site "The Party Points will be credited into your account after a period of 7 days of the deposit date provided there is no redeem in these 7 days. "

I believe by redeem, they are talking about making a withdrawal from their site, not actually redeeming any points you may have. After 7 days, the points are credited to your account and will be free to use.

If you withdrawl cash within the seven day period you get ziltch points.

But here is the thing I dont know:

If you deposit $500 on day 1 and 500 on day 2 and then withdrawl $500 on day 8 after being credited with the first 1000 points do you still get 1000 points on day nine for the second deposit?

That first $500 should be free and clear on day 8 but I suspect they will not give you that second 1000 points unless you wait one more day for it to thump into your account and then withdrawl.

read above quotes for actual tourney values from people who observed entry numbers on the first day. MTT's with only 250 entrants are getting 1000% better overlay value for their points in the early goings.

I just checked the Party $5k freeroll going right now, 1,900 registered players.

There's only 50 registered players in the $250 freeroll though.

I finished 50th out of 1100 in one of the 1000 point freerolls held yesterday. The top 30 paid, so I just missed the money. I had one major suckout in the tourney where I went allin on the flop with trip kings, was covered by another player who called with jacks full of kings, and caught a king on the river for quads.

I was knocked out when I went allin preflop with pocket tens, got called by AK, and the guy caught an ace. If I would have survived that race, I would have been one of the top 20 stacks with only 50 people left. I'm a $20+2 player, so the freerolls are definitely beatable.

One also needs to consider the time-invested in these free-roll things.
Playing in a 300 player or 1700 player tourney or whatever is more likely to be a reasonable waste of a winning-players' time so is not necessarily +EV in that regard.

However, I do get enjoyment from low buy-in MTT's just for kicks every once in awhile so spending my points on these freerolls when I'm in the mood to doink around in a cheapo MTT makes it more worthwhile for me than purchasing their crappy merchandise.

If they ever got to the point where you could redeem your 10k in points for a $20 SNG or something then that would be better. But I'll be using them on the freerolls in the meanwhile more likely than not.

The gear does seem pretty inexpensive considering it's not that hard to get the number of points required. On the other hand, I'd be kinda embarrassed to walk around in something that said Party Poker on it.

I sent them an email about that. They forward it to management.

I want big tourny using points. Like the 216$ ones. Just make it a lot of points 100000 or something. I would rather play one of those than 100 1000pt freerolls.

bingo most relevant comment yet.Winning players in general waste time on these things. If your ring game earn is say $12 an hour per table and you make a fraction of that playing MTT's(including all MTT's freerolls and paid entries)you are costing yourself money obviously.
The real value in these things is entertainment value- they are fun to play!Is playing a MTT freeroll for 2-3 hours worth that lost $24-$36..If the extra table doesnt take away from your earn at your other games you are grinding then it's definetly plus ev.

These are actually excellent if they run pretty frequently. You come home late at night after a bottle of tequila, feel like playing some poker. Excellent use of points. (Just lay off the real money games!)

I can already see it in my future. Bored Rudbaeck. Bottle of 80% alcohol Absinthe. A shot a suck out.
