Online: not betting for value on the river with marginal (but winning) hands.

Live: Check-raising as a bluff when I smell weakness, then (when called) spewing more chips by betting out on the turn (often with nothing)

1) Bluffing at too many flops multi-way.

2) Paying off too much when I know I've been outdrawn.

Combination of these. I lose my stack so often on Party like this it is not even funny. I also take idiots stacks like these, but usually I can tell the difference between when I am going to be taking and when I am going to be giving and I end up giving even when I know I am behind. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have so many holes in my play and it's leaking all over the place. But the biggest one is this.

I always revisit my biggest losing hands (usually everyday). I can instantly find out where I made mistakes but when I was playing when all the chips were on the table often times I couldn't make the right (yet obvious) decision in a short period of time.

As a player who is trying to make a winning record of playing online I have to say I have at one point or another all of these leaks which makes me feel spectacular because I know one day I will have half them and it will make it so much easier to make money. A part of me really wants to ask, where is the book to remedy and plug all these leaks? Yes that was a joke....kinda.

I am posting on it? So you say posting hands will really up my game or help bring me past some of my bullshit play?

TheWorstPlayer
01-24-2005, 11:49 PM
Yup. If I were you (and this is what I did and continue to do) I would sort threads in decreasing order by number of replies and then read from top to bottom. That shows you some of the more interesting/complex scenarios that can come up and how to think about them. Then I would just go through the whole forum and read topics with headings that sounds interesting to me or that I have problems with. I would really EVERY post that has the letters TPTK in it and AA in it. Those hands will make you a lot of money and/or cost you a lot of money and they come up all the time. Playing them properly is fundamental to success at SSNL, in my opinion. And posting hands where you are unsure of your play has helped my game significantly and I am pretty sure that is true for everyone on here (why else would they be here?) Good luck!

Actually Ray Zee had a line the other day which I think summarizes my biggest problems (and it sounds like some other people's too):

"Fastest way to the poor house is to bet a little and call a lot."

Not respecting re-raises.

(Note to self: when he raises your raise preflop and then raises your pot-size bet on the flop, he REALLY likes his hand...)

Good thread Fim....

I'd say that I am too unimaginative/straightforward. (I've been working on this a bit this month though).

Apparently, betting marginal hands in small pots when I think they're best, even though I'm probably only getting called by something that beats me.

BobboFitos
01-25-2005, 03:08 AM
When I raise pf (which I do alot) I always feel like I deserve the pot on the flop. And then once I fire on the flop I feel I deserve it on the turn. And when they're still around, I figure they can't call an all in, and hey, that pot is mine.

In this order

1. Not paying enough attention and going into 4 table autopilot. Then when a situation requires a read, I often don't have one. Damn you fark.com, twoplustwo, and HBO and Skinemax on Demand!

2. Calling WAY too much

3. Passive preflop...working on this one

Yup, same here.

And when I do see these longshot hands once the cards are turned over, I start steaming.

I find I get careless after winning several large pots in a short period of time.
Like tonight I'm playing 4 tables of 25NL and with 10 minutes I'm up $58, I start bullying the tables, making too many over sized bets and bluffs and suddenly my profit is cut in half. Pure stupidity on my part.
I'm up $80 today but that was with 4 tables running for 6-7 hours. Not impressive! At least $40 was blown on stupid plays I knew were incorrect but made them any ways.

Most low stake players biggest leaks are in playing junk hands and in playing marginal hands too often from EP.

To see if you are throwing money away I would recommend (assuming you have PT) looking at this new article of mine:

To find massive leaks, all you have to do is go to this thread:

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1601807&page=0&view=expan ded&sb=5&o=14&fpart=all&vc=1

Either one side has a massive leak, or the other does. Who is right?

Calling river when the flush gets there against my set.

Trying to make fantastic reads of Party poker fish /images/graemlins/grin.gif and then being shocked when my ace high is actually beat on the river.

I am also bad at stopping aces from flopping when I have KK.

Calling short stack all-ins into a big pot. For example, if it's heads up and the short stack pushes $40 into an $80 pot it's like an instant call for me no matter what I have.

I think I have plugged this one, but I used to have what I call the "Last Hand Leak". Where I typically play some questionable hands when I am about to leave, which usually is right before the BB so I am UTG. I have lost some good money from that.

Now I think mine are probably calling raises out of postion and betting at missed flop's into calling stations.

man, I hate those last hand leaks.

my last hand yesterday ended up being set over set.
