Hey guys, been playing limit for 6-8 months now and would like to learn a little NL Will be reading alot of threads here and unfortunatley for you guys posting alot of boring hands just trying to get an idea of proper betting patterns which right now I'm completely lost on.

I'm a tight player in limit so I'll just carry over my starting hands maybe even tighter in NL??

Well here is my first entry.

No reads 1st orbit at table.

Pre-flop:
Don't min-raise pre-flop. Make it 3 (4xBB + 1x per limper) to go.

Flop:
Make it 5. You want to see where you're at.

Turn: I like 5 here, with any other bet you can't be sure whether you're getting milked or up against a draw, so make the bet as cheap as possible.

starting out:

be tigher up front than in limit and looser in the back. the VP$IP > 25 = bad dogma of limit doesnt apply. rememebr, one extra bet in NL is the size of the pot. one extra bet in limit is 1/20th the pot. position is worth about one extra bet saved or earned, so play whatever you please on the button.

standardize your preflop raises until you get good enough to know how to bet your money preflop to force the table to play the way you want. starting out with a standard PFR of 4-6xBB will take you far, just remember to raise AQ the same you raise AA etc.

don't plays draws passively. callin PSB's headsup with a flushdraw is mostly -EV. if you have the pot odds to draw, do it, otherwise you need to get aggro with good draws (like FD+overcard or FD+gutshot) and lay down bad ones (low straight draws, straight draws on paired and twoflush boards in multiway pots etc.)

other than that, read hands. your beating limit means with time you'll beat NL too, and for much more money.

1. Raise to at least $3 preflop. Never miniraise. Generally, I ignore the preflop miniraise.

2. On the flop, I like raising the pot. 3/4 of the pot minimum. To calculate the pot, add the original pot to his bet to what you would call. Then double that sum.
