View Full Version : Bad luck or bad play?

On the flop, I felt anyone with a 9 would have (certainly, should have) bet it more strongly. So I thought I was likely ahead. (A pocket pair higher than 9 likely raises pre-flop.)

Pre-flop, was I loose to call? With the button and only one limper, I thought it was OK. Is a raise better?

Fold preflop. If you had been in the BB, fold postflop.

On the button with Ax, not a terrible call, but a little loose for my tastes when you're <10BB. Raise or fold should have been your rule. No signs of strength, so you might have tried the all-in pre-flop and taken it down.

Post flop, majorly bad play to go all-in with second pair when 3 min call before you. One was bound to have the 9.

I don't know - isn't it your experience that people will call min bets with anything? (Well, with overcards at least.)

It seems irrational to make a min bet (or only call a min bet) with a 9. With a 9, you probably have the best hand, but you're very vulnerable to an overcard coming on the turn, so you need to bet it out strong and drive out the people on draws.

Maybe I shouldn't assume my opponents will play rationally... ;-)

You shouldn't if you're playing $5+.50 or $10+1, that's for sure (as I have learned the hard way) /images/graemlins/frown.gif.

Lots of people play middle pairs for set value (88-JJ). Lots of people also play suited connectors (89)

Admittedly, it's a little strange to play a pair of nine's weakly after the flop, but like someone else said, at low levels you can't assume your opponents know what they're doing.

Either that, or it was a brilliant trap... /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
