You get to choose 4 players for the 2005 World Poker Open. You can only spend 16k. Out of these players what is your lineup?

I chose the first 4 players that I listed:

Humberto Brenes currently selected $4,112.00
Doyle Brunson currently selected $3,992.00
Johnny Chan currently selected $2,721.00
Barry Greenstein currently selected $5,139.00

Phil Gordon $2,186.00 remove
Gus Hansen $4,133.00 remove
Phil Hellmuth $2,856.00 remove
John Hennigan $2,489.00 remove
Phil Ivey $5,439.00 remove
Thomas Keller $2,516.00 remove
Phil Laak $2,317.00 remove
Howard Lederer $6,997.00 remove
Erick Lindgren $5,035.00 remove
Tobey Maguire $920.00 remove
Daniel Negreanu $8,741.00 remove
David (Chip) Reese $3,313.00 remove

Generally the name players tend to be overvalued so it might be the best strategy to pick 4 names nobody else would.

Agreed. I'd take 17 Tobey-quality players any day of the week.

well i would definitely take tobey mcguire if i had to pick 10 players with only 16k behind me. clearly a pro is better than tobey, but i dont think a pros equity in a tournament is 4x tobey's. however, id have to downgrade a 4x player into tobey in order to acquire negreanu in place of a 4x player. i dont think that is a profitable exchange.

i just switched brenes for hanson btw, because i realized that my pick was silly. although brenes is probably the most underrated tournament player on the planet.

edit: i just reinstated brenes because it occurred to me that they are almost equally likely to finish in the money, and one will be picked by a far higher percentage of the public than the other.

reedit: i just changed my list to this:

Johnny Chan $2,721.00
Doyle Brunson $3,992.00
Humberto Brenes $4,112.00
Ted Forrest $5,105.00

I decided that Forrest is a better tournament player than Greenstein.

I feel like I'm wasting my time playing in this thing, as the prizes are not even worth my time, but it's fun. I wish there were fantasy leagues online for real cold hard cash.

Business opportunity for those interested!

i would assume there is not a decent bet on the whole especially since they are expecting up to 1000 entrants

wait so negreanu pays 30:1 on a 1000 player entry tournament? why dont i just burn my money instead.

Never said I place bets there.. I don't even bet sports. But you asked for a "real money" site to bet on poker, so there you go.
