View Full Version : OFFICIAL - Pats vs. Steelers thread.

What a match up, boys! How much more could we ask!?!

Will coach Belichick come out with another gem of a scheme?
More yards, Dillon or Bettis/Staley?
Will the rookie QB crack under pressure?
How much will the snow come into play?

Hero of the game: Adam Vinatieri

I'll be in the Sports Book for this one boys, enjoy the game.

Go Pats!

What's the line? Last I heard was Pats -3.

Of course, I'm still bettin' on the Steelers. Team of Destiny vs. the would-be dynasty. Should be a helluva match.

EDIT TO ADD: I don't think the snow will play near as much as it did against Indy. The Steelers are an outdoors team, playing at home. Not near as much harm as it was against the greatest show on turf (not STL anymore....)

Roethlisberger cannot be defeated.

Ever.

He is not human.... He is like, a piece of iron.

It won't be the snow that matters as much as it will be the COLD. According to weather.com it's currently 12 degrees in the steel city ("feels like" -1) and it's likely to be even colder as we approach game time.

Go steelers. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Wind will likely be even more of a factor than the cold. In Philly, there will be gusts up to 25 mph, not sure about Pittsburgh.

Should be a great game. This is the real Super Bowl - by far the two best teams in the league. Can't wait.

Anyone want to do an avatar bet on this one.

I'll take Pittsburgh, no spread.

Loser has to use avatar of winner's team (particular avatar to be decided by the winner) until after the Super Bowl.

First person to reply gets the action.

Will coach Belichick come out with another gem of a scheme?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, I think he spent the week resting and bonus whoring on party so he didn't come up with much.

[ QUOTE ]
More yards, Dillon or Bettis/Staley?

[/ QUOTE ]

If I were the gambling type, and I'm clearly not, I would put my money on the bus - Duce Staley combination. The Steelers play better run D.

[ QUOTE ]
Will the rookie QB crack under pressure?

[/ QUOTE ]

I predict a few small cracks but nothing major, not even close to last week. The key will be whether NE stops the Steelers run early imo. If they do and Big Ben has to pass a lot early on then it could be trouble.

[ QUOTE ]
How much will the snow come into play?

[/ QUOTE ]

Zero. Didn't snow much last night and not snowing right now so I don't think it's really there assuming some sort of crew is at Heinz field TCOB. If somehow it starts snowing like crazy I think it will very minorly help the Steelers.

My Hero Predictions:
1. Troy Polamalu
2. Jerome Bettis

If kicking the field goal is a good decision there, then the 3rd down play sucked. You run only if you are willing to run twice.

It's an interesting conversation, but I'm still in the "no" camp, even though I'm sure he'll get there eventually. If he had to retire tomorrow because of injuries ala Koufax, I might switch to yes.

Yeah, but we're only talking about if he were to retire after this year, when he's basically got 4 years in the league and at no point was he even in the discussion of the best at his position. I don't know that I'd give him the vote based mostly on his performances on two or three SB's.

I think after a few more years (4-6 more?) he'll be an automatic.

For years I have thought Tom Brady was the most overrated QB in the league, but all this kid does is execute. He doesnt make critical mistakes in high pressure situations. All he does is win, when it matters the most.

Not mentioning this guy when your talking about the best player in the QB position is total nonsense. He should get the first mention.

The kid is a winner.

I'd just like to refer everyone to the thread from a week or so ago where someone complained "I'm sick of hearing statements like this..." about how good NE is.

In that post I stated why I thought we'd win. I said we'd be going for big plays on defense and taking some shots early on offense to try and take control of the game. I said we'd show the rookie some new stuff to try and take him out of his game.

(I also said to expect a typical ground war, which didn't happen in the second half, but nobody's perfect.)

Nice job boys... see you at XXXIX
