Say i have enough of a Roll to play 3/6 shorthanded, but not 5/10. Unfortunately the site i perfer to play on only has 1/2 or 5/10.
If i played 2 tables of 5/10 and 2 tables of 1/2- would my swings be more in line with 5/10 or 3/6? And why?

I think that would be worse than just playing 5/10. If you don't have the bankroll to play one table of 5/10, then adding a second cannot be right.
Unless you're trying to clear a bonus , why not just play on one of the main sites?

Visit Paradise, Stars or the Crypto rooms for 3/6 SH, and build your roll there. Or just play some 3/6 full and build it.

Shouldn't make a difference, assuming no degredation of play as the number of tables increases. It's effectively like playing faster. Statistically, I think that means you should reach your average sooner, but you'll also have wilder swings sooner; that is, there are more chances to deviate from the mean, at the same odds... (gave my statistics book back to the library before I got a chance to read it)

Your bankroll requirement and risk of ruin depend on the ratio of your variance to your EV (see formulas here (http://archiveserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=207170&page=&view=&sb =5&o=&vc=1)). Assuming no degradation in skill when you play multiple tables, when you play 2 games of 1/2 and 2 games of 5/10, your EV will be 4 times greater than 1 game of 3/6, and your variance will be 2*(10/6)^2 + 2*(2/6)^2 = 5.67 times greater than 1 game of 3/6. Therefore, your ratio of variance to EV will increase by a factor of 5.67/4 = 1.42. Since 1.42*6 = 8.5, this is equivalent to playing 8.5/4.25, if such a game existed, which is a little closer to 5/10 than 3/6.

I assume you're normally playing 4 tables, and you want to split them up between these 2 levels. It's going to depend on how you do at 5/10. For instance, if you're losing there, the swings will be pretty big /images/graemlins/smile.gif That's a pretty big jump, from the 2 levels. Strange they wouldn't have something in between.

Keep in mind that you can play the smaller tables where you're at now, and some 3/6 tables elsewhere.

why not take a shot at 5/10? how close are you to being rolled for that game?

this is equivalent to playing 8.5/4.25, if such a game existed, which is a little closer to 5/10 than 3/6.

Make that 4.25/8.5.

No way should you be playing 5-10 much less two tables of 5-10 as your volitility will inclrese significantly.

Jazbo's vp page addresses this concept in the form of multiplay VP games http://www.jazbo.com/
click on: N-Play Bankroll

I would venture that playing 2 or perhaps even 3 1-2 tables would be OK with your 3-6 bankroll.

you might throw in a 5-10 for S&G's ( not sit and go's ) /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sorry, you are confused. Playing multiple-hand video poker is completely different from playing multiple tables of poker. In video poker, the results are correlated between hands, so you need a larger bankroll to play 4 hands of $1/coin than 1 hand of $1/coin. In poker, the results between tables are not correlated. If your skill does not degrade, you need the same bankroll to play 4 tables as to play 1.
