Wow, I liked it. You Americans (I'm Canadian) are Fat! And notice I am spelling Fat with an F. That movie made me think about what I eat and it opened my eyes about how fat society is getting in general. I would encourage anyone who enjoys fast food to go and see it. It will make you think. I thought it was well done and will inspire you to drop some weight if you are obese.
Poker players are known for being on the chunky side. Long hours sitting at the poker table after hitting that casino buffet. Not a winning combination. The winners of the WSOP are getting fatter every year.

Cheers,
Pots

The only thing SuperSizeMe tought me was that you should use your brain. If you really think deep fried potatoes and beef by the pound is healthy, then by all means get fat and die, we need less of those genes.

I saw that movie last week. I thought it was great. I have decided to give up fast food entirely (for a while anyway). I don't know if that will make me any healther, but it can't hurt.

Also if you are not from America, I would caution you against simply watching it to laugh at how fat Americans are (as fun as that may be). I have heard that the obesity epidemic that has hit America it not far behind in other countries.

It's true that people are also getting fatter in places like China and Europe, but America still leads by an, err, healthy margin.

What many who watch this movie fail to recognize is that the guy in "Super Size Me" did little exercise and overall lived a very unhealthy lifestyle. Food was just one of the determinants. I recommend you watch Stossel's piece on the movie, aired on ABC News, in which he's met and talked to people who ate McDonald's for 30 days and actually lost weight and cholesterol. What they happened to do was exercise and only eat 3 meals a day.

To blame McDonald's for turning people into fatasses is to blame Marleboro for giving you lung cancer. The whole movie reeks of "I have no responsibility for my own actions".

I dissagree. I think that the point of the movie is that it is unhealthy to eat fast food. In my case the movie inspired me to stop eating fast food, not to sue McDonald's for my obesity. As far as exercise goes, he made it very clear that he was not exercising (in order to simulate the conditions of many Americans). (If you watch the comentary, you learn that he actually didn't hold his activity as low as he wanted to. He ended up walking about 3.5 mile per day.)

McDonald's just lost their second CEO within a year. Last year, the guy dropped dead of a heart attack at 60. So they replaced him with a guy who was 44 and bragged about eating at McDonalds every day. He just died of colon cancer.

Cmon! Every Meal at McDonalds has way more calories than u need. A big Mac combo has like 2000. That is all some people need in a day. Instead of eating breakfast and dinner, just have a Big Mac combo for lunch and thats it. Once in a blue moon is alright, but wow soooo many calories.

I don't think it is overrated. There hasn't been any other documentaries like this (to my knowledge anyways). When I first heard about it the movie, I thought it was a really dumb idea. But after seeing it, the movie isn't just about fast food and a McDonald's diet, it is about the health of society and how the American lifestyle needs to change.

I thought the movie was very well done and informative, but also misleading to a large extent.

If Mr. Spurlock were to eat every single meal at the finest restaurant in France, and gorge himself like he did for this film, I GUARANTEE he would be worse off than he was with McDonald's.

The obesity epidemic has MUCH more to do with the TV/Computer culture and business world than fast food restaurants, and that is a fact.

Anything to excess is bad

[/ QUOTE ]

That's the point you dolt, weight gain is determined by the amount of calories you eat minus the amount you burn off. It is possible to eat at McDonald's everyday and lose weight, if you ran 10 miles a day and had a Big Mac combo as your only meal you would lose a shitload of weight. You would feel a hell of a lot worse than if you were eating a more balanced diet but that isn't the point astro was trying to make. I don't need a movie to tell me that there are a lot of calories involved when your meal consists of cheese, meat, and fried everything.

This would be ridiculous imagine this every meal...

Waiter: "Would you like a bottle of wine sir?"
Supersizeme guy: "Yes"
Waiter: "How about an appetizer?"
Supersizeme guy: "Yes, please"
Waiter: "What will you be having for dinner?"
Supersizeme guy: "How about the special."
Waiter: "Care for some desert sir?"
Supersizeme guy: "Yes I'll have the chocolate mousse."

3 meals a day of that for 90 days and he would freaking explode. Even when you factor it a smaller portion size than we are getting over here its still gonna just pile on. If you accepted every food offer they made you at a restaurant 3 times a day for 30 days its gonna be Porker City no matter where you are eating.

Personally, I thought the movie was kind of dumb. Sure, the point of it was good and well-intentioned, but the execution was too manipulative. It was reminiscent of a Michael Moore movie in that sense... I mean, what kind of person gets a super sized meal and ACTUALLY FINISHES the 64oz soda? That alone is enough to cause his health to go.

If you really need to be told why fast food is bad, go read Fast Food Nation.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not talking about McD's marketing commercials wise. I'm talking about how employees at any restaurant act towards their customers by continually offering them more food. Part of the premise of Supersize Me was that he would take the Supersize option and eat it whenever the employees offered it to him. Well, if he accepted every time he was offered more food then he would get huge pretty fast no matter what restaurant he was eating at. Mickey D's mass media marketing policies are a separate issue.

You're missing the point.
