This is the kind of hand where I often have no idea if I am playing correctly. I'm a fairly new player and have had more trouble with NL cash games than NL tournaments or limit cash games.

Should I bet more or less preflop, on the flop, on the turn? What should I do on the river?

After losing a few buy ins with big pairs (JJ, QQ, KK), I don't want to be over aggressive with them, but I don't want to play them like they are J8o either.

Any advice would be appreciated. This was Party 25NL.

I always raise preflop with JJ.

half the time, an overcard flops and I don't want to play it against 3 other players who very well might hit their pair when they would have folded to a preflop raise.

given the way you played it, I would check behind on the river.

Raise pre-flop. Check behind on the river. All other plays on other streets are good though.

Raise preflop, in the range $1.5-3 total. If they all fold, you are happy to pick up the money allready in the pot. If you get reraised, you should consider folding.

Otherwise nothing to say bout the hand. Check behind on the river, its doubtful that he has TT or a 9 in his hand, which are the two only hands that will pay you off on a riverbet. He's got a busted flushdraw or 34 for the busted str8draw.

Thanks to all for the advice -- next time I get JJ, I'll raise preflop.

As for the results...

I did check behind on the river (as everyone suggested), which was a good thing because the small blind had A/images/graemlins/diamond.gif3/images/graemlins/diamond.gif.

I like to limp w/ JJ in the EP and raise everywhere else. I used to raise w/ JJ in EP and always lost my stack to someone with QQ-AA when the flop was rags. I think your play is fine. A raise is okay in that position tho.

heres my plan

1 rz to $3 min preflop

2 pot bet flop or rz total in the flop if someone bets out (the thing is that w. overpair and the gen competition on the party $25, pot committing yourself on flop/turn w. overpair is very +EV IMO)

3 at least 2/3 flop on turn

4 ck call river but some will say value bet
