I haven't bought any in 2005 (actually, not since mid-December). Who else hasn't either?

I went to Whole Foods once to get rice milk, wheat bread, and tuna. Yea, just try to make fun of that, punk.

I haven't had a kitchen in 2005 due to an in progress kitchen remodel and I still managed to buy some groceries.

Well, I normally buy groceries online and get them delivered from Albertson's. Then, from time to time I go to Safeway, Whole Foods, or Trader Joe's to get random stuff.

However, so far this year I've just been very busy with both work and social obligations, so I've ended up eating out or getting takeout/delivery for every meal this year.

I just went for the first time yesterday because of the blizzard that is about to hit the east coast.

How much does it cost to have groceries delivered?

Wish I could say I hadn't, but those days are behind me (and hopefully ahead of me, too).

Eating takeout for a year huh? Did you gain any weight?

I go to the grocery store often, but I only buy enough to eat one meal. I hate having food in the house because I over eat when I'm well stocked.

I've eaten it for about 3 now, and I haven't gained a pound. I've actually lost about 20.

Depending on what you consider getting groceries I haven't done that in like 3 years.

No. I travelled extensively for work from '93 to '00 and I also go out a lot anyway when I'm in town. I have eaten out so much it's ridiculous. Nowadays I usually prefer having food in the house and cooking a lot of meals at home. Just hasn't worked out yet this year. I'm pretty sure I'll have some groceries by sometime next week.

To whoever asked, I think there's a $10 delivery charge on the groceries when ordered online. Something like that.

What do you do for breakfast? And what if you want a snack at some random time? Like a piece of fruit.
And what about drinks? Buying a couple of cartons of Fruit Juice seem sensible, certainly more so than buying a glass every time you are thirsty. Aren't you getting somewhat fat?

I've been at least twice, had 0 deliveries of any kind, and have eaten out maybe ten times.

[/ QUOTE ]

Get some coffee on the way to the office. Maybe a croissant if I'm hungry, but I often skip breakfast. This is a key reason for getting groceries, because I prefer to have some orange juice and a yogurt, banana, or nutri-grain bar in the morning.

This really sucks about not having groceries. Really, really sucks.

This is not much of a problem. I drink a lot of water. That's pretty much what I drink even when I have other stuff around. I also have a lot of wine in the house.

I haven't been eating fast-food and have mainly been eating pretty well when I go out, so not yet. But this is yet another great reason for getting groceries.

Why don't you go do some grocery?

Buy

i) A stack of fruit juice drinks
ii) Loads of nutri grain bars. Maybe some cereal bars.
iii) Assorted durable fruits. Apples, oranges, grapefruits etc.

How long would this take? Online 3 minutes? Real life less than 10?

And now you would have enough to last you for some time.

That is nothing. I went 5 months without buying groceries before finally caving a week ago, mainly because I was craving some PB and Jelly sandwiches.

Let me know in May if you still haven't went.

I was considering starting a new topic to ask how many days/months/years this eating style has taken off my life.

I'm old now. Back in my younger days I would routinely go much longer than 5 months without getting groceries. I had at least a couple of > 1 year stretches without groceries in my 20s.

I am in the grocery story about 5 times a week. I go for a walk in the morning and the market is on my way so I pick up a bag of food that will last me a day or two.

If you don't eat why the hell would you go to the grocerey store? I eat once a day, usually, and why not have something delivered or get take out instead of taking the time away from my work to cook or purchase and cook something. The time I save by not having to buy and cook more than compensates for the money spent on take out and delivery. The only "pathetic" thing about my situation is my cooking when I do try to cook.

Thanks for making me feel good, Ray.

I eat at work a lot (there is a dining hall there, it's free, decent institutional food if you can stand it). I have a kitchen the size of a closet and am rarely in the house for lunch or dinner.

Being a restaurant guy I am used to having a little space to prep anything, so my cooking is getting very rusty.

I went to the store the other day but it was for cat litter, which is still sitting in the back of my truck, giving me some weight as I drive in the snow.

WTF??? Why would you say that? What happened to the Ray Zee that couldn't wait for the world to end so he would have to hunt for food with his rifle and the rest of the human weaklings would die of starvation? I liked that Ray Zee much better. This one sounds like he needs therapy. Seriously Ray, the sentence in bold has me worried.

I don't shop for myself other than coffee beans, tea, and half and half (I do have canned goods for earthquakes). Martini makings don't count as food and that is always available. I've found that not having any food at home is the only way I can avoid late night snacking.

Southern California's casinos have decent comped or semi-comped food, so I can eat healthy twice a day. I even know of a few good dishes at Hollywood Park!

On my day off I eat out or at a friends. For fast food, I like Rally Burgers /images/graemlins/smile.gif

A year ago my cupboards and fridge was full but this works much better. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I sometimes go to the store and get like chips/popcorn/etc

However actually spending more than $30 and buying things where I can make several meals.....hmmmm.

Probably around september-october of last year.

A Rally burger is cheaper (often 99 cents) with a little more meat and has a nice taste. But In 'n' Out" is good, I just don't drive by them often during my usual coming and goings.

Also, In n Out isn't that fast in that you can't drive fast and eat it - too drippy.

Anything you order "animal style" is meant to be eaten as your main activity, not secondary.

IMO "fast food" is usually eaten while driving fast - otherwise what is the point?

I have a Costco addiction.

Last time I was there, I bought sweet LED flashlights, and cheap poker chips. I've used a flashlight once in the last 5 years, and I've never played poker at home.
