In a regular tourney I think this is an easy call. Should I think about folding so close to the bubble?

Call. He's the short-stack and could have a lot of things.

Call. You're a favorite against the fairly large range of hands he could be pushing with. And you're certainly not in a comfortable chip position as it is.

Hero should have folded to start with and it was not even remotely close.

Now, well, you call and hope he only has eights.

Can you explain why this is a fold right off and not even close. There's only 2 players in the tourney around 10 BB or less. Everybody else is pretty close to me in chips or has me outchipped. So like another poster said I'm not exactlly in position to fold my way into a seat.

Playing 5 handed the blinds and antes will eat my stack away quickly. If I'm not going to open raise with 9's how good of a hand do I need to pick up the antes?

There would have to be a player or two ready to bust out on the blinds very soon for me to do anything with 99 here. That's not the case here. Easy fold.

Never mind. Misread how the hand was played.

Button could be desperate ... he also could have the goods. Even if you're ahead, it's a coin-flip. If you're behind, it's by a lot. Guess the question is if you're willing to risk half your stack on a hand like 99. Given what's at stake, my answer would usually be no.

Some intersting dynamics at play here. I would have folded pre-flop as well. FWIW, raising is the worst of all my options here. In my experience, you will probably be able to fold your way into the final 9 spots and here's why. All of the stacks are comparable to each other.
The next two all-in confrontations will most likely decide this tournament because there are very few all-in scenarios that does not leave someone severely short-stacked or on the rail. Personally, I would have auto-mucked JJ UTG as well. There's just no reason for you to go to war here.

Muck the 99 preflop.

Alright, I raised with them, 6800 in the pot and it is 2300 to call, so this is an easy call against the shortest stack.

I would have mucked quickly. Like one poster said, I would have also mucked JJ. The risk/reward in this spots is not good enough for me.
