The swings of micro limit

I nibble away at the micro-limit games (50c/$1), aiming to build a big enough bankroll to gradually play higher. Not terribly exciting to you $5-10 and higher players, but I enjoy it and its what I can afford at present.


Tends to be a steady, almost unbroken series of wins as some of the opponets are so poor. Then 2 days ago I lost 30 BB in a little over an hour - set under set, A7 v A8 etc etc. Most disheartening. Last night I won it all back in just over an hour - two full houses, Ace-high flush getting action all the way from both the Queen and King (fools!). And this despite losing a monster, when my full house was beaten by a gutshot straight flush.


Just thought I'd mention it, for anyone experiencing a bad run who feels the cards will never turn. They do!

Try not playing A7, then it won't ever get run into A8 /images/wink.gif

Fair point, however it was suited, and in these games is more likely to run into A3o!

on second thought, maybe you should stay at the microlimits for a little while. the rake will eat your profits, but you'll get better at the game.

Thanks for your thoroughly patronising message, crAAcked, gee I am such a moron because I play micro-limits and adjust my play accordingly.


1. I have a job, I also have a lot of debt and am not able to put large sums of money into an online poker site. I did attempt to top up recently, but cannot get my credit card deposits accepted - it appears Mastercard have implemented some sort of blanket ban.


2. 30BB in an hour IS a bad run at micro-limits, I very rarely lose in these games.


3. My A7 v A8 confrontation - I was suited, added to which I was in the blind. Playing the hand is a no-brainer at these limits. As the hand played out, I was sure I was up against Ace-small kicker. As often as not it would be smaller than my kicker. If you don't play these games then you are ill-positioned to judge my hand selection and play.


4. There is a fair difference between the A7s hand outlined above, and 2 players calling my raises all the way on a four-flush board.

If you are,as your name suggests,a UK player,why do you think Mastercard have banned deposits to poker sites?I have seen no evidence of this,or indeed no reason for such,unlike the U.S.patrons,we are not breaking the law by 'gambling' online.

Because thats the answer I'm getting, although carefully phrased, when I try to make deposits. I tried to go through Paypal also, and got a message that they had an agreement with Mastercard not to fund gaming accounts. Looks like I'm stuck with having to send a personal cheque, get a VISA (and I really don't want to add to my portfolio of debt!) or just work away at growing my small bankroll that already exists online.

I haven't tried it, but another poster mentioned that you can fund your poker account by having someone else send you money through Paypal...you can then pay him/her back with mastercard or whatever...

Now THATS a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. As it happens, a guy (a top European pro as it happens, namedrop, namedrop!) has offered to transfer some funds from his account to mine in return for a cheque. the site I particularly want to deposit to does allow this, I did it once in the past with a friend but have lost touch with them.

I assume you mean you transfered the funds before but didn't think of using that way to fund a poker site before?


If nothing else, this might also be a way to avoid the cash advance fee most CC charge for purchases to online gambling sites also. My card never has changed the fee when I payed for something (say I purchased on off ebay) through paypal, but they hit me with the 5% fee (or whatever) if I use it to buy-in to a casino.


Obligatory comment: Gambling on credit may, in cetain cases, indicate you have a wee bit of a problem.

Now I see it..you mean you transferred funds (i.e. chips) through the poker site, but didn't think of doing the same same through Paypal and then buying chips.

As for gambling on credit, don't we all do that online?? I stick tightly within my (limited) means, hence playing the damn micro-limits at present. More swings last night, got stuffed in an O8 game where one guy appeared to be dumping off his bankroll and I couldn't get a cent of it. Another 30 BB swing, but made it back and more at stud (wow, people are poor at this game) and a better Omaha session later.
