My local casino is hosting its first Canadian poker tour event. The structure is not very common and for that reason i would like to discuss how this should effect my overall strategy.

Tournament structure

It's a 300$ buy-in, no limit holdem with unlimited re-buy options and add-ons.

buy in: 300$ 1000 t-chips
Re-buy: 100$ 1000 t-chips
final add on: 100$ 2000 t-chips After level 4

Re-buys may be purchased if:
a) player has less than T1001 in level 1
b) player has less than T2001 in level 2
c) player has less than T3001 in level 3 or 4

This means That if i bust out at level 4 I can re-buy
4 times in a row and get another 2000 chips after level 4 with the final add on.

If u want to spend the money you can ensure yourself of having no less than T5000 chips at the end of level 4.

Blinds start at 25 25 and increase every 30 mins.

level 1 25 25
level 4 50 100 re-buy period ends
level 8 150 300 ante 25
level 12 400 800 ante 150
level 16 2K 4K ante 600
level 20 10K 20K ante 2000

Day 1
The first 40 players play down to ten.
The next 40 players play down to ten

Day 2
Remaining 20 players play it out. Tournament pays 10 spots.

The re-buys are only one third the value of the original buy in, should they be bought at every opportunity?

The re-buys can bought multiple times in a row in the later levels, should you wait and see if you need to purchase them?

The final add-on is one sixth the original buy-in is it an automatic sale?

The blinds seem kind of high to start. I guess that's to encourage the rebuy options.

one third of the cost, maybe, but certainly more than one third of the value.

Buy early, buy often. Play loose to break. Good luck.
Shoot to build a monster stack.

Sorry stinky, you're right, 1 third the cost.
Thanks for helping out.

Play loose - play to build a monster stack.
How far would you take that concept, do i take a short price on a hand.I posted this question on another thread but i'll put it out again.

First hand you have AKo in the bb it gets folded around to the sb who goes all in and shows you QQ. Do you call?

It depends on your wallet and your tolerance for pain.

You want to build a large stack, if you can. How poorly
does the field play? Usually the biggest stacks at the
break are LAG, and you can get their chips later, but
you need to have ammo to work with.

Observe what the 'normal' range of stacks going into
the break is, you are shooting for something like 2/3
of the big stack minimum. Also, at least at the higher
of the median/mean of other stacks.

I would play as loose as you are comfortable with, in
being able to rebuy. Coinflips are good ways to build
a stack, if you don't mind the rebuy.

Good chance that none of your outs were folded -- first hand in a tourney at the first level of blinds, you won't find many people folding an A or a K when no one's raised the pot yet... especially since natural selection hasn't evaporated the guys who will play any A or K yet.
