View Full Version : A Thought Regarding "Tilt" Hands

Does anyone suspect that the hands the show dramatizes are deliberately silly, as a way of winking at knowledgable players? After all, aren't the hands on all 2+2 books equally, if not more, ridiculous?

maybe. but...i dont' think so. they do things like show the board very quickly, so only a cardplayer can even know what's going on. so if i didn't know the game, i'm not sure i could care.

also, explain the silly 2+2 hand idea, please? i'm not sure i get you.

On HPFAP, the way 83 sucks out a boat over AK's two pair. Also, if I'm not mistaken, doesn't the board play on the cover of SSHE?

I'm glad someone else found this hilarious...

i dont like the fact that the only hands they show the young guns winning is when they hold the absolute nuts. itd be nicer if they were to snap off bluffs or to bluff people out of pots now and then. the fact that they only win pots when they hold the nuts doesnt impress me much other than the fact that they know how to extract chips i guess.

agreed. we really need to see more hands per hour, so that we kind figure out what kind of players these guys are. and we've only seen the thought process of the white dude. like to see why, for instance, miami played those quad 7's how she did. i figure she was thinking something. i don't know what, though.

So can we give these writers the same credit for subtle satire that we give the 2+2 covers?

I also suspect the string bet gun showdown in episode one was meant to be funnier than it was dramatized. It seemed to beg for a Tarantino-type treatment, a violent exaggeration of a petty, everyday B&M gripe.

The one exception I've seen to this is when the girl was heads up with that guy in the casino, and she called his all-in w/ A high. But otherwise, the hands are pretty ridiculous, though, they are trying to bring in viewers who maybe aren't as poker knowledgable as most on this forum. Later

Uh, ace high on that hand was the nuts. Quads w/ ace kicker. What would have been ridiculous is if she folded it.

sure but she did call a pot-sized bet on the turn with just Ace high, then hit the miracle river card

I understand that, but the original poster wasn't referencing the call on the turn, he said: "The one exception I've seen to this is when the girl was heads up with that guy in the casino, and she called his all-in w/ A high"

She called a pot sized bet on the turn, but she called his all-in -- the play that he referenced -- with the nuts.

The two most impressive plays in poker are A) making a tough call for all your chips with a bad hand, and B) making an tough laydown for most of your chips with a great one.

The guy should have been holding a Queen..Why you ask? When Ellix Powers watches he goes "He called with a Jack high! A JACK HIGH!! hee hee hee hee" That would be hilarious!

Get your facts straight. The 8,3o was held by Sklansky and the meager A,K was held by his partner. Or something like that. oh, as you can see my facts aren't as straight as they should be but I am sure the 8,3 hand happened.

Vince.

I was playing with some of the worst poker players that I've seen this past weekend and the 83 hand wouldn't surprise me.

These players called with stuff like K4 (offsuit, not that it mattered) from UTG and then kept drawing to the river. They were drawing for 1-pair and one guy in particular kept getting pissed off that his rivered 1 pair lost to top pair.

So yes, as unbelivable as the 2+2 hands are, they do exist.

I'm really glad I'm not the only one who was very confused about the hand on the cover of SSHE
