View Full Version : Most ridiculous hand ever (Spewing?)

Let me preface this by saying this table was not really a poker table. It was an Adam Stover donation fund set up by the Salamanca Casino. They found the worst players on Earth and set them there for me. Wasn't that nice of them? There was a family pot when I raised UTG and the entire table proceeded to call me. It was great. There are no words.

Seneca Casino 3/6 Holdem (9 players)

I have A /images/graemlins/spade.gifK /images/graemlins/spade.gif in MP2

UTG calls, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, Hero raises, MP3 calls, CO calls, Button folds, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop 8 /images/graemlins/spade.gif2 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif2 /images/graemlins/heart.gif

Check to me, I bet, MP3 calls, CO calls, BB calls, rest fold.

Turn: 5 /images/graemlins/spade.gif

BB checks, I bet, MP3 calls, rest fold.

River: blank

I make a move to bet, I see he will call, so I check (is this poor ettiquette?), he checks.

I went into "anything to win it mode" which may have caused me to make errors? Did I spew?

I probably don't bet the turn because people loooove to slowplay and are more concerned with making their penis feel long than winning money. But betting can't be bad, I just don't wanna pay 2 bets when I could pay one.

I wasn't going to get raised. Even if the players in question had a 2, they would call. They love Tilt. Need I say more?

This is your most ridiculous hand ever?

I'd check and call the turn. No way everyone folds if you bet, and you avoid giving whoever has the 2 the chance to checkraise you.

The reason it was ridiculous was when I went to showdown. I showed AK, and the other player mucked his hand. He was going to call me down with a worse A high hand!

By the way, your opponent's "made a move like he was going to call, then checked when I did" is a classic tell. When you threaten to bet, he threatens to call just to make sure you aren't betting to make him fold. He's hoping you'll back off and check. If he follows with a check, it was a bluff. Here, you fell for it. You can sometimes see him doing this and bet into that weakness even if you're weak yourself; he'll often put his chips away and fold.

(Conversely, if he was going to raise you, he'd be looking miserably at his cards with his hands nowhere near his chips. You get the point.)

His chips had almost crossed the betting line and virtually put his bet back, and he was too old to be tricky (he was seriously like 85, at the youngest).

this looks exactly how I'd have played it. You likely still have the best hand on the flop (unless you are up against a pair). The turn 5 isn't a scare card, plus if you ARE behind (which is possible given all the callers) you have a nut flush draw to back it up (and possibly two overs depending on what they have). River, I check with plans on calling.

By the way, I don't really know what's so ridiculous about this hand.

MP3 and CO have yet to act.

I think betting the turn is fine.

With people acting after me on the that turn, I bet.

Last to act on that turn, I'd check through.

This is perfect, I assume they will call about anything on the flop.

River depends on the player, if he will bet all better hands if you check to him, then bet and try and get a call from A-high instead, if he is a little weak and will just be happy to drag the pot with whatever pair, then checking is fine.

I bet this turn everytime. If you check you might as well turn your cards faceup. "Hey everybody, I have AK and I missed! Go ahead and bet your lousy pair of 5s!" Betting accomplished what you wanted - you folded people who may have had you beat with a low PP or who might have caught on the river. Being checkraised here is not as horrible as some people seem to think - you have plenty of redraws. Your flush is probably good (unlikely anyone has a boat here) and your overcards may even be good. It just means you're behind with one card to come.
