In my office there are 15 men and 12 women. Without a doubt women miss far more work days than men for personal reasons and sick days. Discuss...

because the majority of women don't feel like they should have to work. They are just holding a job until their prince charming comes along, whereas men realize their job defines them.

women are so concerned with their bodies they constantly go to the doctor to check everything. They also rarely work through sickness. Guys on the other hand don't care and go to work.

If I was an old married guy I'd say.

"Why would I miss work? I would have to stay home with the wife?"

alas, it's because women are more prone to illness.

Last time I checked, breaking up with your boyfriend was not an illness. Maybe ask TheDude, I dunno.

Do you think employers consider this when making a new hire?

I get the $hits at least once a month. I don't miss work for it. I am sure it is just as uncomfortable /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

The ad/domain advertisement must be appropriate and unoffensive

I think 99% of the people reading that auction just realized it is not worth 2 cents let alone 2k.

I female employee from my office has been off all week. I knew her grandmother was sick, but I had assumed she died and that was why this woman was off from work. We get an e-mail today (from another one of the women) that this persons grandmother died today and she would let us know when the funeral was so we could send flowers if we wanted /images/graemlins/tongue.gif.

Anyway, I don't want to sound insensative and all that, but this seems excessive to me. Couldn't she spend time with her grandmother during non-working hours? I'm sure she expects to get paid.

The women in your workplace are obviously smarter than the men there.

You all get the same number of sick and personal days, they just take them, while you guys don't.

You would consider it "smart" to take all your sick days every year?

In addition to all the other stuff mentioned, women are also much more likely to call in to stay home with a sick kid than a man would.

Most employers view taking all sick days negatively. It definitely affects raises/promotions.

So you beat them that badly. I occasionally smack a b*tch, but nothing that would prevent them from walking the next day.

Women have many small sick day episodes.

Men save them up for a big one like ... heart attack or liver cancer.

Men die ten years earlier and slack off in the grave.

You wouldn't be offended if an employer used this a reason to pass you over for a promotion, would you?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, if it's been a problem for them in the past. I was always told if you ever go to an interview and say any number more than "two" when the employer asks you how many sick days you take a year, then you may as well go to the next interview because you won't be getting hired at this one.

We'd have to check the national statistics to get more than small-sample, personal numbers on this topic, but things similar to this are why "the glass ceiling" isn't necessarily unjustified in certain instances. Employers also have to consider potential maternity leave and such things.
