Two weeks ago I went to Commerce Casino and lost $140 /images/graemlins/frown.gif (one $40 sattelite, the rest at 2-4). On the way home, in the driving rain, I hydroplaned on I-5, did a 180, and slammed into the concrete median. Luckily I am OK and I didn't hit anybody. Ironically, the tow cost $140 too, but at least it was covered by my insurance.

However, my car (97 Subaru Impreza Outback w/ 110k miles) was totaled and I received $7200 from my insurance company /images/graemlins/laugh.gif. I'm going to buy another Subaru, but would like some input. Here are the ones I've looked at so far.

1) 05 Impreza RS (slightly used); stick; 1900 miles; $17,800

2) 03 Legacy Outback; auto; 25,500 miles; $18,800

3) 03 Legacy GT; sport auto; 17,700 miles; $19,200

4) 05 Impreza RS Wagon(new); auto; $19,500

5) 05 Impreza Outback(new); auto; $21,300

The GT has leather, moon roof and power drivers seat. All the others are more basic models and have pretty much the same options other than stereo (but I'll be putting in the .mp3 player from my old car). The offer on the new ones is $1250 cash back or 1.9% financing. I can get 3.9% from my credit union, and after crunching the numbers it is better to go with the cash on both.

So which would you choose? Is it worth it to save about $15-1800 on the 05 Impreza RS, or should I get a new one instead? With the cash back they are almost the same (comparing it to option 4, which isn't quite fair as 4 is a wagon, and 1 is a sedan). At what price would you take 1 over 4?

When I moved from PA to CA, I got two $100+ speeding tickets with my Impreza Outback Sport. I think a WRX would be a bad decision for me /images/graemlins/wink.gif
