View Full Version : Where have you lived?

Tyler Durden
01-19-2005, 07:46 PM
Okay, I will go first. I was born in Liverpool, England (hometown of the Beatles, and I was born the same day John Lennon was shot, December 8, 1980) and lived there for 18 months, then I lived in London for 6 months. When I was 2 I moved to Northwest Washington, DC. Then when I was 10 I moved to McLean, Virginia, a suburb of DC. I went away to college and moved back to McLean after graduation in May 2002. In February 2003 I moved to Arlington, Virginia and that's where I live now. That makes me 24 years of age.

Okay now somebody else go!

I was born and grew up in Superior, WI, went to college in Houghton, MI, interned for a summer in Cincinnati, graduated and interned for 8 months in San Diego, then went to grad school in Ann Arbor, MI, graduated there and returned to San Diego for one year, then got a chance to get the hell out of CA and help start an office in Littleton, CO, which is where I have been for a year now at 24 years of age. I plan on being here for a long time. Oh and I spent three months in a suburb of Phoenix last spring/summer for work - I would like to add that Phoenix is a hole of the magnitude of Detroit and East County San Diego.

I was born in St. Petersburg, USSR, on July 7 (Ringo's birhtday), 1980. I lived there until 1992, when my family emigrated to the United States. We settled in Boston. I went to college in New Haven. After college, I moved briefly to Norfolk before coming back to Boston, where I live now. Last summer, I spent several months in London...I think long enough that it counts.

I was born in Bloomington, Indiana on June 7, 1984 - the same month and day as Anna Kournikova (6/7/81). I lived there until I was 5 and moved to Vancouver, Washington for about 2 years. After this, I moved BACK to Bloomington, where I lived until January, 1994. I have lived in Eagan, Minnesota for the last 11 years, and I go to school in St. Cloud, but I don't count that since its not a permanent residence. I'm 20, obviously. The whole 3 3 moves before I turned 10 thing was loads of fun.

The first place I lived no longer exists. Literally, it is all gone. Austa, Oregon was a mill and logging camp in the coast range, near the confluence of Wildcat Creek with the Siuslaw River. A covered bridge is still there over the Wildcat but everything else is gone, except the overgrown remnant of the old log pond.

For 23 years and 8 months of my life, I lived in Gilbert, AZ. 9 months in San Diego for my Freshman year of college, 12 months on the road playing poker and being a general degenerate, and the last 6 months in Las Vegas as a certifiable degenerate make me 25 years and 11 months old. And now that I actually write it out, I officially feel old.

I know, but Yahoo isn't the same. It's only remotely good if I can get 5 of my guys on there to play. The worst is trying to teach someone how to play. There's so much crap going on all at once - it's not that difficult of a game, but there's just so much you have to know and you have to know it all right away. It's bad enough trying to teach one person how to play when you've got 4 that already do - try teaching a group of people when you're the only one who knows how to play. It's impossible.

If the following applies to you, please don't take it the wrong way - I don't mean it as a knock on anybody:

I'm quite surprised by the number of people who live in one place their entire life. It may be bad enough that I haven't spent a significant amount of time outside the United States, but there are so many people who don't ever even leave one part of their state. Growing up, I always thought Northern WI/MN was a great place to live, but once I got a chance to live in a few other places, I'll never go back. Don't get me wrong - I still think it's a relatively good place to live, but it's surely not for me anymore. Don't you feel like you're cheating yourself just a little bit?

That's a major reason I've decided to move. I grew up and went to college in the Seattle area and I want to try a different time zone.

I don't take what you say badly at all. I have lived in Rochester, NY for all of my 24 years. I went to Buffalo for college, transferred to a college in Rochester (75% girls /images/graemlins/grin.gif) and just finished up my masters. I didn't live at home during college, that woulda sucked. But I have traveled all over the country and the thing I've figured out is that as long as I've got my close friends and family near by, that's all that matters /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well I dont take it as a knock on me. I had plans to move away from Indianapolis, but as usual things change. I made the mistake of getting a girl pregnant when I was 18 (we were together 3 years). We are no longer together and it is for the better, but I can't leave right now because I could not stand not being able to see my daughter. Now once she gets old enough I may change my mind. Right now though she is only 4 years old.

As a musician I've spent lots of time on the road all over US and Europe, so I guess the answer for me is no, I don't feel like I'm cheating myself.

although i do have ideas of moving to another country for a while, but as far as the US goes, i will always be here. i have no problem with moving somewhere and trying it out as an experiment, but so far there has been no reason to do so.

Born in Stockholm, Sweden. Lived there until 17. Went to Portland, Oregon as an exchange student. Stayed in Portland for three years. Went to Arkansas for two years, then came back to Portland and stayed another three. Moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where I lived for almost four years. Moved up to Denver last winter, been living here ever since.

Cheers,

You could nearly make that every day playing poker there if you put the time in. The games there are usually very profitable.

Born in Libby, Montana - early 1970's

in the late 70's/early 80's, my parents divorced so I shuffeled between Kalispell, MT and Sonora, CA - with little bits of time spent in Modesto, CA and Columbia Falls, MT and a very young time spent in Whitefish, MT that I don't remember

then I went to college and moved to the Minneapolis/St Paul metro area/suburbs and never moved since, though it was only in the last 2 yrs that i actually ever LIVED in Minneapolis - the rest of the time it was a suburb - I could have said Minneapolis on my mail, but I couldn't have voted for their mayor or anything.

In short, I've lived very rustic with a fireplace for heat, Middle class house with satellite TV, and City living apts.... - I think I miss the rustic the most, but I'd miss cable internet too.
