I know the check on the turn is a bad play. I was thinking either flush draw or set on the flop.

Pot the flop, pot the turn, check behind or call the river. If you thought he had a set or a flush draw, why did you raise the river?

I went with my instincts and put him on a missed flush draw. I thought he might have been trying to buy the pot at the end.
Looking back it was terrible that i didn't just call. He had K-4 and hit a straight on the river.

I'm no expert at NL so take this with a grain of salt. But if you figured him for a set/flush draw, why did you bet so little on the flop? Why not bet say $4-5 on the flop. If he has the flush draw he doesn't have odds to call. If he stays around you can probably put him on the set and get out.

With AA he doesnt want to scare away lesser hands, that's my guess.

If you think that your opponent is on one of two things, either a hand that has you crushed or a bluff, there is no point in raising.

He will dump the hand that he is bluffing with and take the rest of your money when he has you beat.

Why not push the turn?

yes. But given he prefaced his post that he put BB on either a flush draw or set, so there's no lesser hands to scare away.

wayfare didnt notice he had such a small stack. just change his advice to pot (or near pot) the flop, push the turn. easy. OP played this one baaad, but i guess he knows that. no reason to bet less than half the pot on the flop as far as im concerned.
