I am of the opinion that most of the horrible singers that we are supposed to laugh at do not even do what we saw in front of the panel. I live in Maryland and know some people who went down to DC to tryout (for whatever reason) and there are 2 rounds before you even get to the round where you *might* get your audition shown on TV. So obviously they let some clowns through... but I think there is a fair amount of Fox-style editing and BS going on as well.

I suspected as much. I always wondered how the judges sat through tens of thousands of auditions, and now I know the answer is, they don't.
