No real reads, but I suspected UTG+1 to be in with the flush draw. The reason I called the bet on the flop was to see if I could get one chance at a 9 to trip up or an 8 to make the straight. Yes, I know this was a mistake, but I'm looking for comments on the other aspects of this hand.

The flop call isn't a mistake. You're getting 8:1 from the pot.

I agree with edge, folding on the flop would be a mistake, you have the correct odds. Given that you checked the turn (not sure if that is correct or not) and some one put in $3 afterwards, I would definently re-raise to at least $8, from $8 anywhere to all-in.

I don't see any point slow playing now, since any hand worse than yours will not be betting or raising again unless he tries to bluff it, and after you called $3 I don't see anyone bluffing at it again.

you don't want anyone getting odds to call for either one of the flush draws out there, that would be my main concern, I'd be happy to take down that $6 in the pot on the turn.

I checked intending to check/raise, unfortunately ...due to the fact of me being a meathead... that turned into a check/call (I don't know why, but I didn't expect UTG+1 to call) So then the lovely spade falls and my call button turns to jelly.
