My GF is a novice snowboarder, and I am a complete n00b. I don't really mind looking like an idiot - it's expected - but is there a place that stands out as being beginner-friendly in terms of some instruction and semi-decent rental equipment? (Preferably Tahoe area)

I love Alpine Meadows. It's similar to Squaw Valley, w/o the crowds/Squallywood attitude. It's also next door to Squaw.

Don't know about rental shops/lesson specifically, but I'm sure they are good there.

North Lake - I like Northstar and Sugar Bowl. Good size resorts, decent prices.

South Lake - Heavenly is very nice (and right next to the casinos!). Kirkwood is an awesome mountain but out of the way.

All the pros ride at Mammoth.

I think Heavenly at Tahoe was the best from what I remember.

I went to Mammoth this past Christmas break and I must say their conditions were pretty nice too.

If you're a noob, stick with the beginner runs. Even an intermediate one could ruin your day. And if you notice the lift carrying you pretty high, then you're f*cked cuz you about to witness the power of a black diamond.

Happy trails!
