It doesn't work - I'm too tricky, I guess. My brain is too strong for your silly mind tricks.

That should cover it. Have a nice day.

I've seen this before. It has something to do with what we learn in 3rd grade about all multiples of 9 equaling 9. I'll explain fully after lunch.

it's a math problem. the symbols change every time too.

wow, thats freaky. I did it 5 times. The first 4 times it got it right, the 5th time it was wrong. And it was a diff symbol everytime

hey, changing the symbols....thats like cheating and stuff

the answer in white.

there's an equivalence class for numbers with the same 10's digit here. ie you'll get the same result for 55 as you will for 56 as you will for 57 as you will for 58 etc - you'll be looking up 45 every time. and if you try it for the 60s, you'll be looking up 54 everytime. etc in multiples of 9. call these the "destination numbers". so each destination number gets the same randomly changing symbol, and the ball generates that symbol no matter what.

FWIW, here are the generation numbers. you'll notice they all have the same symbol in the applet.

10-19 = 9
20-29 = 18
30-39 = 27
40-49 = 36
50-59 = 45
60-69 = 54
70-79 = 63
80-89 = 72
90-99 = 81

More white:

One nice touch is that they assign other symbols to 0, 90, and 99.
