caveat: I'm still pretty new to both NL and SNGs. Please give me a kick in the head if I need it here.

I'm pretty short stacked and I'm going to start bleeding chips in a hurry if I don't do something. How is this move?

I'd do it at least 1/3 of the time.

One thing that's slightly better than pushing: Bet around 500. Any non-idiot will know you're pot committed, but it just looks scarier and might get a 5 or 9 to fold, whereas a push just looks like 'oh hey, a 9 or a draw'.

The play itself is fine, though.

I like the push as long as you feel there is a reasonable chance that UTG will fold a made hand (5,9, or lower PP). I'm not sure what level SNG this is but if villan is type of loose caller that you get at the lower buy ins then I don't like it, but if he's a capable of laying down a weak made hand I really like it.

Thanks. Yea, this is something I have to get used to about NL, that a smaller bet can represent a stronger hand. Not intuitive for us limit dolts...

I know I've been running bad the past week, but in the 10+1 party games I've been playing Villain has AQ or PP 5s here and I just committed suicide pushing for a straight draw.

In any case, I don't like the math on this even though it's a great draw -- like any draw it's going to come through 1 out of 3 or 1 out of 4 times, which is fine in limit where you can get 5, 6, or 7-1 for your money. But in NL that means most of the time you make this move you are out of the tourney if you can't get the villain to fold.
