Seems cable speeds are going up again to compete with DSL. Downloads move from 3mbps to 4mbps and uploads from 256kbps to 384kbps.

A typical home DSL network connection is generally asymmetrical and limited to upload speeds of 128 kbps. The typical cable connection (not taking into account slower speeds at peak usage times) generally offer 400 kbps upstream. Naturally DSL and Cable service will vary by vendor. Some home DSL is available at 384 kbps and symmetricl DSL for business use supports upstream speeds of 640 to 768 kbs. Naturally cable symmetric servise is available and has upstream speeds from 400 kbps to over 1 mbps.

All in all cable has been faster than DSL for some time now except where intentionally capped by your cable provider or restricted by your local neighborhood usage peaks.
