I open raise 2 off the button with Ad Kc, both blinds call, everyone else folds.

Flop comes As 8h 7s.

Small blind check raises me, bb folds, I call, planning to raise the turn or river.

Turn: 8c; Board: (As 8h 7s) 8c.

Sb bets, I call.

River: 7h; Board: (As 8h 7s) 8c 7h.

Sb checks, I call.

calling his check was certainly novel

That's why I should preview my posts. The sb bet the river and I called.

Off topic, but how long does it usually take to get into the Party 30/60 with the absurd waiting lists?

The earlier you get on the wait list, the less time you will have to wait. It is usually 2-3 hours with 40 players waiting, and longer with 60 players, which is common in the evenings.

usually takes me about 3hours I just leave myself on the list and come back in 3 hours.

Think it was played ok. FWIW, raising the river is a MUCH better play than raising the turn.

i don't like raising the river on hands like these because it's a huge 'i know that you know that...' kind of thing. if a running flush or straight shows up that's cool, but if it's outside of the zone of 'this guy raised decent cards up front and rivered something' people are seriously capable of threebetting because that's about as obvious of a raise/fold to a reraise situation as it gets barring you holding exactly pocket aces.

as for the hand i just threebet the flop. you don't have a spade and there are a ton of possible straight draws/flush draws/god knows from people who cold call out of the small blind.
