I've been playing consistant poker online for about a year now. But recently a place opened up around my house that has a $1/2 no-limit game running 24hrs a day. What is the recquired bankroll for this game?

Also, what other big switches do I need to make going from limit to no-limit?

Well, sinced you are not used to NL I would recommend atleast 12 times the buy-in.

Small PP:s go up in value, as does suited connectors. I limp suited connectors MP-LP 8-9 and up, and call raises if stack sizes warrant it and I feel the opponent will pay me off if I hit. Some people will come in for a raise with SC:s in LP.

What else?

I also recommend you read Pot-limit and No-limit Poker by Reuben and Ciaffone if you haven't. Along with Sklanskys Theory of Poker, which isn't specifically a NL-book but should be read by everyone.

Good Luck

Does the new place have a capped buy-in?

While the general consensus is that 10 to 15 times the max buy-in ($1000 to $1500) is considered sufficient to weather the beats, no bankroll will suffice if you are an average to poor no-limit player.

Big switches include learning how to bet and raise big (how much in what situations), and learning about your opponents. While it's entirely possible to make a profit not knowing a lot about your opponents in limit poker, you really have to pay attention to your opponents' characteristics and playing habits in no-limit.

Is there a max buy-in? If so, I would suggest buying in for the max and having 15-20 times that amount in your bankroll, since you are unused to NL. Also, I would strongly suggest playing some smaller stakes online first. From what I've heard (I hardly play any NL live) the casino games will be softer than the online games at the same level blinds, so even smaller online stakes would be a good warmup.

I would want 2-3k to play 1/2 NL and buying in for $200. This is 15 buy ins and allows you a fair amount of leverage.

The biggest change between no limit and limit is making big laydowns. You'll have to fold AK as top pair top kicker on a semi regular basis.

they have no limit at the tulalip casino up I-5. They have a 100 buy in, and sometimes a 2. When i was there, the 100 had a waiting list.
