No reads as this is my second hand at the table.

My thinking was he hopefully had KK or QQ, and that i might as well play the flop. Thought i was beat after he capped the flop, but then we checked through the turn and he checks the river, I think I'm ahead. Thoughts?

I would check the river as he may have slowed down because he has AQ and he fears you have AK. He could even have AK and fear that you flopped a set. I'm sure others will recommend a value bet here. But being my second hand at the table I would elect to check. A good player would probably play AK or AQ like this, barring the limp reraise.
