Does anyone know of a good ad blocker that is free and isn't a trial version?
Get Firefox, it takes care of all kinds of sh[/i]it.

The ad blocker in Google toolbar works ok. It doesn't block everything but it blocks a lot.

Google's toolbar (while borderline essential) doesn't feature an ad blocker, it features a popup blocker.

What's the difference?

Semantics. To me, "ads" is an all-encompasing term, so that would include banners, popups, buttons, etc. Popups are ads that open in a new window.
I use a program called AdSubtract that I paid for that effectively blocks out all advertisments, and I also have the Google toolbar installed. I recently switched over to Firefox, so AdSubtract might be unnecessary as Firefox has some pretty nifty features and might block ads by itself.

To black ads in Firefox, I suggest using the extension "adblock". Firefox itself takes care of popups, but adblock will block all image ads, as well as ad-containing frames, and scripts.

I tried Firefox about a year ago and didn't like all that much. I'm willing to give it another try. What other extensions do I need to make it better for me?
