Looks close to me except the "No Cash Value" on the real chips, but I guess you intentionally left that off, correct?

Can you share how you created it? Did you cut and paste the Binion's logo from another photo or did you re-create it?

I would suggest increasing the font size of the "World Series of Poker" text. Not only does it look a bit smaller than the text on the original chips, but it also seems small compared to the other visual elements on your design.

Also, I'd tweak the curve that the same text is on. It doesn't seem like it's quite circular.

Forgive me if this is too picky. I work with visual designers regularly, so I've learned to (over?) analyze the details.

If possible, i would recreate "Horseshoe" on the chip as authentically as possible. Get rid of the binion's and make Horseshoe red with a black outline. That would make the chip look better I think. BTW where did you get the Horseshoe logo? If you recreated it, what font was it? Good work, keep it up!

Look in the thread titled "images of 2003 or 2004 WSOP chips?"
Another forum is also trying to recreate the wsop chips and they have plenty of images.

yeah i saw some of their designs and really didnt like them, especially how they all said "tournament" instead of HORSESHOE and none said world series of poker

definitely will touch up and make the text at the top bigger, thanks for the feedback, ill update this thread once ive done a little more work

heres an updated image of what it looks like with a red horseshoe logo and a bigger WSOP banner at the top -

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v51/kudrowfluffer/sample_chip2.jpg

if anyone can find me a high-res image of the horseshoe logo WITHOUT the binions part it would make it a lot easier instead of trying to edit that part out, for now i think it looks better with a slightly incorrect logo than a shitty erasing job

your curve is still off, it is more noticable now, what does it say on the real chips under the WSOP logo?

obeythekitten
01-16-2005, 07:35 PM
"no cash value"

obeythekitten
01-16-2005, 07:55 PM
here is another update on the design, for some reason i have problems getting the curve to fit my chip exactly -

Hey, What font is that you're using for the "world series of poker" thing at the top?

Johnny5
01-17-2005, 11:44 AM
Are you using photoshop? The font isn't identical but I had a slightly better quality logo:

This is nice. Any chance you could increase the font on the WSOP line to fill the white space a bit more? Maybe by a couple of points?

Jonny, can you make a mock up of the design a little more similar to the actual world series of poker chips? here is an image i captured from one of the tv shows. THANK YOU!

quick question. What's the novelty of the World Series of Poker sticker Mockup if you can't buy a similar chip to put the label on? I mean if you could find a decent chip that looked similar to the ones used during the WSOP than I'd think its awesome, but to have that label on a nexgen or whatever, it just seems like kind of weird.

because 90% of the stickers that people put on poker chips are really lame.

a lot of people like myself prefer having denominations on the face of the chip, just as lots of people absolutely hate being locked into having a specific denomination on the chip.

I really like this design. Are you interested in selling them after you make the designs, or in selling the designs themselves. I'm willing to bet that that would broach copyright infriengment and the like, but then what the hell. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

i'm actually working on a couple more real casino ripoff designs as well as tweaking this one to actually look more like the real thing, when everything is worked out i'm sure i could sell you some...i really doubt harrahs is gonna go after someone for selling a few hundred stickers with their name on them.

All the pictures of actual chips I have seen are pretty terrible, so matching fonts is pretty difficult.

https://home.comcast.net/~wam929/chips/wsop1000a.jpg

I think this is pretty close though:

wow thats perfect, what did you use to get the curve/size of the font right?

Johnny5
01-19-2005, 06:20 PM
For these mockups, I just used Photoshop, but to do a proper job, I would suggest using Illustrator and the "Path Type Tool" to shape the text. Coreldraw and other vector-based programs have similar features.

when i try doing the same thing with "warp text" in photoshop the curve never matches the shape of the chip perfectly like you got it

Richard Tanner

Yeah I kinda assumed they had bigger fish to fry also. Anyhow, let me now when you finalize the WSOP designs as I've actually been looking for ones similar to those you made (which look incredible).

Don't use warp text in Photoshop. Look up "Creating text on a path" in the help. That's what you want to do.

downloading photoshop CS as i write this, because apparently photoshop 7 is unable to do this.

Anyone know where to get slugs that look anything like the chips used here. I own a set of the 9g Las Vegas Clays and they are made by the same people, but anyone know of any faceless chips that would do the trick.

you can get blank 9 gram composite chips from http://www.pokerchipmart.com/pokerChips9GramClayBlank.html

they sell $12 for 50 chips...making them a little more expensive than the nexgens, but does anyone know how these will hold up with stickers? (they dont look like they have a recessed center like the nexgens, but would look better with the WSOP stickers)

Richard Tanner
01-21-2005, 03:39 PM
I actually own those chips (with the Las Vegas center). I like them but some have complained that they don't like the feel. At any rate those are the ones I was referencing in my post, and I think they will do very well with the sticker (THey do have a recessed center by the way).

Hey Obey, do you know what denoms you're going to be doing. I'm most interested in the 1000, 5000, 10000, and 25000. I was just curious as to whether you planed on making these designs or not. THanks

ebay!
just search "las vegas 9g" or "las vegas clay"
cheapest ive seen is $75 buy it now (+shipping) for $500 chips.
im planning to buy a 1000 chip tournament set for $150
i live right buy most of these sellers and local pickup is $15.

Now, there is a sticker on there but we can peel it off. my friend actually has a set of them and i found it difficult but not challenging to pull one off.

You will be making these vinyl labels correct? and with laser printing? i wouldnt buy anything less. Vinyl will last and be smudge proof.

I am willing to buy 2000 labels. i would need denoms of 25(x1000), 100(x600), 500(x300), and 1000(x100).I know they are going for around $50 on ebay for 2000 labels. are u getting a discount on bulk orders?

let me know...

If it helps, they start with 25-100-500-1000 chips, then color up to 5000 (Black), 10000 (Light Blue) and 25000 (Red) chips.

FYI - the chips change over the years and I haven't seen a good site for listing them.

From "Positively 5th Street" Jim McManus 2000 WSOP:
Denom / Qty / Color
$5,000 / 1 / Orange
$1,000 / 3 / White-Royal Blue
$500 / 2 / Black-Yellow
$100 / 7 / Slate
$25 / 12 / Green

25 Chips - $10,000

I was always curious about the starting chips breakdown too, curious if it changes?... heres a link to the blind structure WSOP 2004 Blinds (http://www.harrahs.com/2004wsop/pop_10k.htm)

FYI -
WSOP Chips (Chipco's) for sale (http://www.cardroomsupply.com/cardroomsupply/topoch.html)

The for sale links up til Monday... read more here:

THose proofs are great, but there are a few problems I think. Namely, the $10000 chips was light blue, not pink. Other small things, but overall, those look really nice.
