i just moved up to 2/4 recently, and so far over my mini sample size of 475 my AKo is 0% win out of 5 times. i used to play 1/2 shorthanded, so this 2/4 full ring is a whole different world, and i need to adjust. here's all of my AKo hands so far, what would have you done differently?

Hand 1 the standard line is to check fold the turn. Heads up calling down unimproved with AK is OK occasionally, but this doesn't look like the spot for it. It's pretty clear MP3 is raising with some sort of pair since there's no draws on the board.

Hand 2 is standard. I don't think there's any other way to play it. Note there's lots of stuff besides pairs that SB could be calling with on the flop.

Hand 3 and Hand 4 are tough without reads. I would tend to bet the flop and turn like you did though. Rivers are probably check-folds 3 handed, but check-calls heads up.

Hand 5 not raising preflop is silly. Take a break if you're choosing to make plays you know are inferior. In any case, I think you should be the flop, you likely have the best hand here.

In Hand 4, I tend not to cap preflop with AK out of position, but it depends on the 3 bettor.

Hand 1: Check/fold the turn. This is one of those differences between full ring & 6-max games--you're much less likely to run into a total bluff, which is the only thing you're beating at that point. The pot isn't big enough to justify hanging around.

Hand 2: Exactly the way I'd normally play it. No use in betting the river, because any hand that calls a bet beats you.

Hand 3: Fold the river.

Hand 4: Check/call the turn. MP2 almost certainly has a PP & possibly an overpair, but you have pot odds to chase your 6-outer (downgraded to 5 in case MP2 is on KK-AA). Also, make a note on MP2 after the hand--he's giving you credit for AA the entire hand, which probably means that he will only cap preflop with AA-KK.

Hand 5: Raise preflop. You would probably be 1-5 with AKo if you had done that & bet the flop. You can't allow short-term results to affect your game play.

thanks! when i played shorthanded i usually used how much calling i did as an indicator of playing poorly/on tilt. but not raising really is stupid :P. lucky for me it was a small pot.

at least the good thing about this first crappy session is going through pokertracker and looking at all my biggest losses. i was rivered 3 times, in big pots. i was down 20BB at the end of the session, so those 3 pots woulda put me up positive. short term variance sucks!
