Loosely based on the Stanford Prison Experiment (http://www.prisonexp.org/), the 2001 German movie Das Experiment (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250258/) is one of the more disturbing movies I've seen recently.
Plot-wise, German scientists set up a mock prison with volunteers as guards and prisoners, mayhem ensues, blah blah blah.
The violence and torture are really creepy, and there are some disturbing parallels to the Holocaust. In the wake of the Abu Gharib scandals, it's interesting to think about what leads people to be so cruel to each other.
Anyway, definitely worth checking out. Also worth checking out in the creepy-German-thriller genre is 2000's Anatomie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0187696/), with Franka Potente, who I find unbelievably hot.
