besides my mistake of not capping preflop (maybe i was trying to be tricky and use my position...?)...do you pop the flop or wait for a double sized bet? for some reason, i am waiting for the turn on a lot of my hands...i really need some guidance as to when you raise the flop and wait til the turn in a heads up situation like this. and cap the turn too?

Your preflop raise/no-cap-when-he-3-bets makes your play look like a steal attempt to SB. He probably reads you for a weaker hand than you actually have. I'd cap the turn.

Not capping preflop is not the problem here. If you decide to just call preflop, you should usually come to life on the turn. I would cap it and just call a river bet if he fires again.

I sometimes like to wait for the turn to start raising on big hands, but it can cost you a few hands too. Sometimes it allows weak draws to catch on the turn that would have folded to a raise. On this hand it worked well, but I think you should have capped the turn and raised the river. While it is possible he could have pocket 7s 8s or 9s. I believe it is more likely that he has AK or something and thinks you have missed on the flop.

I play this exactly the same as you did, except I would cap PF. I find myself playing quite predictably in HU situations, raising the flop with semi-weak to semi-strong hands or for a free card, and raising the turn with strong hands. I wonder if this is bad? Once I start playing 6-max, I think I should start mixing it up a bit.
