One for the soccer fan, what do you feel is the best/most impressive goal?

For me it's the second Maradona goal in the semifinal of the 1986 World Cup against England. Shitty first goal in that match, but the second was unbelievable.

"Orr....behind the net to Sanderson....back to Orr--SCOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRE!!! Bobby Orr!! And the Boston Bruins have won the Stanley Cup...."

Now that the Sox have lifted the Curse, the Bruins are on the clock (ever notice they never won a cup after they TRADED BOBBY FREAKING ORR TO CHICAGO?).

i think along with the "if you make a post about a female, we need pictures" rule, we should have a "if you make a post about something amazing, we need video footage" rule.

Gazza's freekick against Arsenal in the 1991 semi final of the fa cup. Or Glenn Hoddle's goal against Cambridge, in about 1986 when he ran through the whole defence barely even touching the ball; pure intelligence.

Actually, "Matteau!" came to mind even before Orr, but I didn't post it because:

--I'm a B's fan;
--I didn't want to wrestle with the spelling of Matteau.

(Speaking of wrestling, "The Isle of Malta" got an LOL out of me. I worked at Arby's when I was in high school, and couldn't drink a Jamocha shake without thinking, "...from the Isle of Jamocha...")

Barry Horne - Everton vs Wimbledon 1993.

Everton needed a win to avoid relegation but slipped 2-0 down early on. Graham Stuart scored a dubious penalty as half-time approached. Then Horne's curling right-foot 67th minute wonder strike brought him his only goal of the season. Hans Segers then let in a weak Graham Stuart pot-shot before being arrested for taking bungs to throw matches. You picked a great game to throw Mr Segers.

Here's video of him scoring when playing for my Sevilla (http://www.diegomaradona.com/ingles/multimedia/videos/sevilla/isev.html)

I just found an excellent site with video of tons of excellent goals. It's actually a fifa website, just go to www.fifaworldcup.com. (http://www.fifaworldcup.com) Here's a link (http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/p/video.html#) to video of the 50 best goals in world cup history.

For the American soccer fan:

Clint Mathis' 80 yard run in 2001 was incredible. Better than Maradona's in terms of pure beauty, but it was on a lesser stage against lesser competition.

Paul Caliguiri's goal in WC 1990 Qualifying in Trindad/Tobago. It was a decent goal (IIRC, a one-time shot from outside the penalty box) but it's beauty lies in it directly led to WC 94 coming to the US, MLS being formed, and the current status as the US as a legitimate soccer team.

Wild Card: Mathis' goal against Korea in WC'02. A total enigma, but this guy can score some highlight reel goals in between glaring at his coach, grabbing his crotch, then pointing at his watch indicating he should play more often.

I searched for videos of all these, but no dice.

As a Bruins fan (but not a big hockey fan since the '80's), this goal isn't quite up there as great because the Bruins swept the Stanley Cup Finals that year.

Trading Orr was no big deal. His knee was hamburger by then. It's sad. But, not a big deal.

I'm not much of a soccer fan. So, my vote goes for this one too. It's an iconic moment in American women's sports.

That's a sweet site.

I like the one Rivelino goal where the guy on his own team gets into the wall, he kicks it straight at him and he falls out of the way to let it through. Sick.

I thought I was one of the only ones who thought this was for hockey. I have watched one live pro soccer game in my life, the Tampa Bay Mutiny vs some other team, and there wasn't one goal the entire match. We even sat through the overtime and there wasn't one goal.

Archie Gemmell for Scotland vs Holland in the '78 World cup. But I'm slightly biased. Brilliant goal anyway!!

If I was less partisan, I'd agree and say the maradona goal vs england. He managed to dribble past a couple more defenders than auld Archie, even though the finish wasn't as glorious.

Edit: If you've seen the film Trainspotting, you've seen a very brief clip of AG's goal.

I scored a game winner in High School back in 1992. That one was awesome. Knocked in a rebound and I got to do a little airplane thing back to midfield.
