View Full Version : The waffle bluff

Poker can often be applied to real life but my life isn't very real so I'm going to apply it to animated tv life.

In an episode of the Simpsons, Marge calls to the children to get up for school. They ignore her so she calls again, "I've made waffles". They are down in moments but there are no waffles. A good bluff, well executed.

Problem is for this to work again at some point Marge will actually have to make waffles. The question is how often will she have to make waffles to optimise the children-up-for-school-to-slaving-over-a-hot-waffle-iron ratio.

Thinking about this, it may be useful in real life but bear in mind your kids will require therapy in the future if you really go for it.

My wife does similar things to me, but she taunts me with sex.

she only has to make waffles rarely. Make them a few times at first, with a sprinkling of bluffs. Then gradually up the bluffs. Natural optimism takes care of the rest.

This is classic intermittent reinforcement (BF Skinner)

I wonder what Skinner would say (have said) about the Chalie Brown/Lucy and kicking the football dynamic. Charlie Brown never got even a bite of waffle there.

Much as fish still call a raise out of position w/ something like Axo? ;~)
