I always thought the 'ace up the sleeve' was cool (Rounders) but it's been done.

Biggest fish I ever saw had a brand new ace up his sleve at the Trop 2 months ago, it wasn't two days old. He was complaining that he couldn't wait until the poker boom was over, because he started loosing once everyone started playing. I almost cried it was so funny!

I wouldn't get a poker tattoo now. I don't even tell people I play poker, let alone for income. It is embarassing to be assosiated with the poker explosion. We all have friends like this. The ones who watch ESPN and travel channel, then procede to set up home games, wear sunglasses, and think they are really good. The same guy who used to rattle off baseball stats and opinions at you is now saying "yeah, that (poker pro) is real good" "you gotta know he's bluffing ya know?"

ESPN meatheads getting on the poker train is the best thing in the world...it is just annoying to sit through.

Self esteem issues? Ego? Come on man. Who the [censored] cares whether you play poker or not?

I avoid bringing it up, and I play it down when others bring it up. It's one of those things that nobody really understands unless they REALLY understand it, and there's far too many misconceptions.

It's not worth explaining to people over and over that:
- It's not all luck, nor is it all skill.
- No, I won't take their money to AC and double it for them.
- There is almost no chance that I will make millions playing poker.
- I'm not delusional or in denial, I actually do win consistently and can provide it beyond reasonable doubt using mathematical principles that far pre-date poker.
- One session means less than nothing.
- You're not playing against the casino, so the "house always wins" adage does not accurately describe it. The house "wins" far more often in poker than any other game (every raked hand), but this does not prevent other players from winning consistently as well.
- I have no plan to play in the WSOP
- Reading people's tells is not nearly as important as Rounders makes out
- Bluffing is a much smaller portion of the game than they think
- I don't care if I'm ever on TV. In fact, I would prefer not to be.
- Moneymaker is just plain not a hero.
- Raymer is was not the green amatuer that Moneymaker was, so the analogies/comparisions are usually wrong.
- I'm not going to discuss the strategy of the WSOP with you.
- I'm not going pro in the near future, and being a poker pro is not as wonderful as many people make out.
- Despite being reasonable sure I'm a winning player, I'm reasonable sure you suck.
- etc, etc.

hahaha. "I'm 99.7 percent sure I'm a winning player, and I'm 100 percent sure you suck". That would be the best retort...if they knew why it was 99.7 percent...

self esteem? ego? who cares?

self esteem doesn't make sense. Poker actually enlarges my ego since I am a winner. And your right, no one cares, so why tell them.

Having to explain yourself is bad enough, and striking up a conversation with a WPT idiot is worse. The way the new WPT/ESPN crowd parades their new found knowledge around in conversation is embarassing. It is equatable to someone who watches football on TV talking shop with an offensive coordinator.

Very good examples! Haha. I don't ahve a problem not blabbing about it, but it just seemed like he doesn't even acknowledge it when it does come up. And that's lame. but reading both of your responses, I understand what you meant by your comments.

Across the street from my frat is a live out house that one of the older members lives at. Anyways I was over there hanging out with some other guys I didn't really know very well, smoking hooka and drinking. Then I noticed that one of the other guys that lives there had a tatoo on his forearm. It was the suits of poker with a letter in each one. The letters spelled out LIFE. I didn't ask him about it, but I thought it was pretty interesting.
