Hey all,

I plan on having home sitngo tourneys with a starting chip count of $1,500...since a lot of us play at Pokerroom...

blind levels are 10-20...15-30...25-50...50-100...75-150..

I have 500 chips (150.white..150.red..100-blue..50.green..50.black)

How many of each color should I start with if I have 8-10 players?

Also how do you all do blinds? timed or number of hands?

thanks!

Hey, this is a good idea. I never thought to have a "SNG" night... $5 a pop or whatever. We could have two+ tables going at a given time, and several fast tourneys a night. This will take a little more thought when I'm not just passing by my keyboard....

We did something similar in our home game, but with four-player tourneys. $5 buy-in, winner take all. It was a lot of fun for all concerned. We got in 11 in less than 6 hours.

No rebuys, right? Exactly like an online SnG?

If most of your players are happy with traditional chip colours (ie., white = 1, red = 5, green = 25, black = 100, etc.) then how about the following:

Pretend the blue chip is purple, and make that equal $500.

Forget the white chips.

Assuming no more than 10 players, give out 15 reds each (15 x 5 = $75), 5 greens (5 x 25 = $125), 3 blacks (3 x 100 = $300) and 2 blues (2 x 500 = $1000). That makes $1500 each, I think.

As for the blind increases, I think most people find that timed is better. Have you had a look at homepokertourney.com? Great advice there.

Here is a set up you can use for 10 people or less (with no rebuys)

10 Players (or less)
Color Value
White $5
Red $10
Blue $25
Green $50
Black $100

Chips per player = 15 white, 15 red, 9 blue, 5 green and 3 black for 47 chips per player totalling $1000 in chip value. A total of 470 chips would be used for Ten players.

I would start the blinds at $20/$40 which is 1/50th and 1/25th, respectively, of total chip value.

Here's what I do to get online-SNG-style tourneys to work in my home. We sometimes wrap up a dealer's choice night with a tourney of this style.

For 4-6 players, payout is that 2nd place gets his buyin back and 1st place gets the rest. For more than that, you'll have to choose a payscale but it's not very important.

The main problem with the online style SNG is that you have to worry about chip denominations, which is something they obviously don't have to consider online. But I've found that you really only need two denoms: $25 and $100.

That way you can start with a stack of 12 25's and a stack of 12 100's. Since you have 150 of your whites and reds, this will work out fine for up to 12 players. Most times you don't even really have to worry about coloring up, but if you do you can color up the pots as dealers will sometimes do during the hand.

You WILL have to modify the first couple blind levels, which would want to have $10 denoms ordinarily. But do the first couple levels thus and you'll be roughly equivalent, with the advantage of being much more convenient:

level 1: a single $25 blind
level 2: big and small blind both put in $25
level 3: 25-50, and from here you can follow the same blind progression as pokerroom, including antes when they show up

You can choose to set the blind timers at 10 or 15 minutes, depending on how crazy you want the action to be and how long you want it to last. If you do 15 minutes, it will last between 1.5 and 2 hours, nominally. 10 minutes can go pretty quick, so you might compromise and do 12 if that's what you want.
