No read on opponent as this was the second hand of the table. Should i just go into check/call mode or wait for resistance like I did?

Check-calling the flop or turn would be really really weak.

I play this the same way you did, except I would at least consider 3-betting the turn. (Reraising the turn is probably wrong because this is one of those way-ahead-or-way-behind hands).
