I have heard it many times. He is a talented musician, however his songs are music to the vagina. Way to girly for me to rock out to.

way too true. i'll throw some of my current favorites

1. weakerthans (this will be in almost any top 5 i ever come up with at any given time)
2. mates of state (have been really digging this band lately)
3. mountain goats
4. new pornographers
5. black keys

my problem is i really get into a band listen to them a lot then burn myself out on them.

prime example is pavement/stephen malkamus. for some reason they were popping up on my itunes like every 3rd song and i was getting so sick of hearing them that i can't listen to them now, lest i hate them for years.

I saw possibly the greatest metal show of all time in the middle of f#%$ing nowhere in Mass. I don't know where I was. It was in a church gymnasium in a small town. This was the lineup:

The Dillinger Escape Plan
Coalesce
Converge
and Neurosis headlines. Just sick.

Dillenger/Coalesce and Converge...basically followed them around the NorthEast whent hey toured in 97? I think it was.

Coalesce in their prime were awesome.

Paluka, you should check out skycamefalling, they got pretty big on the national hardcore scene, and there first incarnation included yours truly. I went to college, they found a much better vocalist and drummer; signed to ferret and toured Europe. Fair trade off I guess.

figured either purdue or IU. i graduated from purdue in the winter of 96. funny thing is i went to a wedding in 2001 back in indiana, and the old lead singer of johnny socko was the singer of the soul band that did weddings. he said johnny socko was still going, but without him. he was making tons more playing weddings.

I see your point...re: Piebalds..Current Incarnation no. But they started as a hardcore band in the hardcore scene. They used to tour with Cave In before Cave In went all prog. In fact Piebalds first two albums are all screaming. In 94-96 the hardcore scene was filled with poppunk/emo bands before the phrase was officially coined. One of the first "emo" bands Clockwise was from Long Island, and it was called "emo-core". Promise Ring/Get Up Kids/Mineral were all bands in the hardcore scene..even though they were what we now know as Emo..Bands like Hatebread/Deadguy/Vision Of Disorder/Earth Crisis/Snapcase were all "metal-core" bands...etc. Coalesce would tour/do splits/covers with Boy Sets Fire, and the Get Up Kids. Zines like "In Effect" and "Ant-Matter" covered all of these bands. Sigh...
I think when I grew up it was a matter of location, like if you were an indie rock kid who grew up on punk..you were most likely into your areas "hardcore" scene..though you may not necesarily rock out to Gorilla Bisquits or Sick Of It All. Bands like Hatebread/Deadguy/Vision Of Disorder/Earth Crisis/Snapcase were all "metal-core" bands...etc.

This reminds me of my freshman year term paper entitled.

Hardcore: The Community and it's Effect on Youth Movements.

fair enough. i'm from the midwest and all those midwest bands cap n' jazz, braid, promise ring, get up kids, etc. were always just post punk bands that were eventually called emo bands. i don't know piebald very well, but saw them play here in denver like 5 years ago.

Oh cool. Great scene in the midwest.
But right on with post-punk. I guess nationally we just lumped them all together as part of the scene. I wouldn't call any of them a hardcore band, but like I consider Cap N Jazz and Braid and all them as part of the "Hardcore" scene. Like if they played in Long Island, they would play at the same venue, and 80% of the same kids who would see Coalesce/Hatebreed/ One King Down would also be at that show.

[/ QUOTE ]

No, I like some of their stuff. Some I really liked. But it wasn't even close to what they were with DLR. Im not sure if lesser is the right word. It's just alot different. Song-wise with Sammy they're more 'song-oriented' to where with Dave they were more riff oriented.

Personally, I really like Sammy on his own much more. Especially his older stuff. It fkin' rocks. But it seems that when they play together, they cut their balls off a bit for some reason. They just seem so, so...safe.

I heard the 1st tune of this 'reunion' and it sounded like a time warp. A bad time warp. It reminded me of Boston where everything kind of sounds the same.

It's the 1st VH album, other than the live 'right here right now', that I didn't buy. Maybe if I sample it I might get it, but im not in any rush. Especially since it's a greatest hits deal. Besides, I have enough bootlegs of the DLR era stuff. Not to mention there's plenty I don't have. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
