UTG is LPP and at least 50%VPIP. With this type of player, am I playing this correct, or do you suggest slowing down. If so, when? These types of situations seem to come up quite a few times against this type of player. Should I assume his check/call means I'm beat?
My thinking he is on a draw to a flush or a straight.

I would almost always check the river here, and only sometimes bet the turn, depending on my mood. I don't think I will usually bet this turn unless I think I have some folding equity, which it doesn't look like you have too much of.

I usually check the turn. I always check the river. Exactly what does the river bet accomplish?

I don't see the river bet as a good play. I would play the flop & turn the same depending on my reads. If he was on a draw he will probably fold to the river bet. I suspect you are behind a small pair (probably a 9). I can't see a hand here they would call with that you can beat.

Thanks guys! That was my thinking too. I just wanted to make sure. I seem to be playing this too aggresively. I'm learning that in these small limits that high card Ace does not usually win. It just gets frustrating at times! I'll post the results in a little while.

UTG had Td,2d! This was the story for the entire session! Good starting hands, terrible results! I think by what you guys are saying that my only choice in these situations is to slow down and save money.

You really need to learn from hands like this. When you play against over aggressive players, you should resort to calling down with so-so hands because they will try to run stone bluffs so often. That is exactly what this player did to you, and it is wrong to call him "fishy" for calling down with bottom pair because he actually played this hand decently.

So next time this happens on this board (Q92) you should value bet hands like TT (because he will call with any pair) and you should check unpaired hands like AK. In this hand after you check the turn, how comfortable do you think he feels betting the river with just a pair of 2's?

O.K. Shillx, so in a nutshell, don't be shy about showing weakness with A,Ko if the flop is not favorable. But bet the flop and if he calls then check down. Correct?

Against players who will call with any pair, you should be quick to slowdown if you dont have a pair yourself and you should be betting marginal paired hands for value. So in this hand, I think that betting the flop and then checking it down on the turn/river is the best play. But if you had something like a pair of 8's or TT then you should bet for value.

Kinda off topic but me and a buddy used to go up to Phoenix every weekend from Tucson to play at Casino Arizona. Have you been there recently, and if not you might wanna go check it out. The place is a goldmine. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

It's about a 45 min drive from the house. I'm in the west part of town. Time is limited with work. I wish I could pull it off. I have to get up at 5a.m. this time of year and 4a.m. in the summer. It seems on-line is the only game I have time for. I'm playing in a little 2 table tourney though Sat. live. Looking forward to that. I'll post more hands. Trying to get better like we all are on here! Have PT now. What an eye opener!
