I am having a factual discussion with someone about how much aid the U.S. is really giving. Can anyone point to a total calculation for the U.S.?

The U.S. government aid in actual dollars is comparitively low. However, my understanding is that private donations are through the roof? Is that correct? Also, how much in value/cost is the U.S. logistics effort?

I am not yet concerned whether we are giving too much or too little. I am really first interested in the actual amount given.

I saw $765M yesterday, but I can't comment on where it came from or how accurate it is. I believe that's the $350M from the government plus private donations. It's very hard to tally up the other stuff. I also saw a stat on some Discovery Channel (I think) show last night saying half of all American homes have contributed to the aid effort.
