I'm starting to get freaking obsessed with this stuff!

I've got a bottle of purell with moisterizers on my desk and I can't stop putting it on......partly because my room is such a shithole, but its like every time I go do something when I come back I've gotta put that [censored] on.

Anyone else like to come clean with their addiction?

I finally started using the game time window in pokertracker, and when I don't have a few of the players in the database, I import hands every minute or two until I have them.

Sorry, that had some poker content, I know.

That is actually a common symptom of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). If memory serves, OCD stems from a lack of serotonin, and twitching and the like cause the brain to produce small amounts of serotonin. That is why people with OCD often wash their hands (and have other compulsive behaviors).

From your description of your house in prior posts, this could just mean that you undertand the importance of hygiene.

no. my house is an absoulte shithole, i'm gonna go into my bathroom for a second and count how many things are on the counter that I have not picked up since I don't know when....

yeah there is about 35 things including these...

about 6 beer beer cans, 2 keg cups, couple of mugs, 2 toothbrushes, a pyrex measuring cup, 2 empty toiler paper tubes, 3 razor blades, 2 razors, 3 cans of shaving cream, stack of magazines, a 1/2 gallon milk jug that is like 1/5th full (yuck!).

I just cleaned off my desk yesterday but usually there is a about 6-10 empty beer cans/bottles and I only clean it off when I can't see the monitors, and sometimes when I run out of room I'll move my keyboard to my lap and start placing things in that spot.

It's actually not a matter of insufficient serotonin production. It is true that serotonin availability can be diminished by a diet poor in the necessary precursors (i.e. tryptophan), and this can result in serotonin-related problems such as temporary depression. But more deeply rooted disorders such as OCD and chronic depression are a result of overeager dendritic terminals that reabsorb the serotonin from the synaptic cleft before the synapse can fire. In other words, the brain is producing enough serotonin, but it's not able to use it efficiently enough for normal neurotransmission.

Other than the fact that you could make that stuff for virtually nothing out of everclear and glycerol, it works OK, but not as well as washing your hands.

How do you make it gel?

IIRC, Purell is only the glycerol, which is really viscous, and alcohol, with some perfume added. It'll go on nice and smooth, just the same. I can get a gallon of glycerol for 7 bucks, too. Maybe I'll make some and bring it to you, now that Zee told me who you are.

cool. One more question, what does IIRC mean?

My sophmore year I lived at 6645 DP, in a 3 b/r apt with 5 other guys. All of us had major slopiness issues. We hired a maid one time to clean our place. It was so disgusting that we all felt bad enough to give her a tip of $100... she was only charging $50 to begin with.

Wow, now THAT is an informative response.

The reason for the the compulsive behavior is to try to relieve this situation (even though it will not not relieve per above)?

Well, not exactly. There is still a lot of research studying the relationship between serotonin and OCD. Its link to depression is a lot clearer.

Of course, OCD existed before there was a name for it or people knew what serotonin was. Someone with OCD doesn't need to be cognizant of their disorder to manifest its symptoms. (If anything, an accurate diagnosis alone can equip the person to cut back on these behaviors.)

...

Okay, I just reread your question. I can't bear to think that the last five minutes were a waste, so I'm not going to delete what I already typed.

Anyway, yes. The compulsive behavior (Sponger mixing vats of instant sanitizer) is an attempt to relieve the situation created by the obsession (Sponger's fear of his dirty shithole).

For those that don't know, Brassnuts just named pretty much the most crazy address to live in all of IV (6630-6670 DP), he probably drank 9 days a week.

Is 6645 the dolphin house?

I live at the end of the 6700 block by dog sh[/b]it park.
