From what I understand, it is pretty standard to bet about 2/3 to 3/4 of the pot. This is to make it incorrect for people to call with a range of draws. Are there opponents for whom, across the range of hands/draws with which they will call with, make it appropriate to bet 1/4-1/3 of the pot on a frequent basis. My roommate(who I mentioned in a recent post) does this good bit, and steadfastly defends it(just as he does some of the more than slightly unusual raises).I have a hard time ignoring it because of his success over the last couple of months.

If people are going to frequently call with middle pair, or randomly take a card off, is it reasonable to bet that little when those calls will be incorrect. When I say anything about a hand to my roommate, one of the first questions he asks is, "did you overbet." meaning my normal 2/3 - 3/4 pot size bet.

All input is appreciated,
John
