I took Vlad, why I am wrong? Injury concerns?

I voted Pujols, if he's the age he claims he is.

If we disregard salary Beltran gets a lot closer

I feel Vlad is #3 in a longterm situation

I would take Vlad. I might be biased though after watching him for several years at olympic stadium. He is definitely a 5 tool player.

I'll take Pujols, but damn, I don't think you could do wrong picking any of them.

Pujols. Look at his stats, and look at his age.

Dayamn.

1) Pujols (so young, so good, I just don't see a downside)
2) Vlad (minor health concerns, a VERY close second)
3) Beltran (1 year does not the player make)

That's it, that's all. Thank you, come again.

That was my thinking Vlad can beat you with his bat, legs or arm.

Pujos can flat out hit but little else compared to the other two.

I think Beltran is this year's Vlad but not as good.

Yeah...Vlad has sick skills, but his defense is overratecd. Helluva arm, but zero accuracy. I like Pujols's abilities to mash and get on base better. All three are amazing players, but I feel Vlad is the least likely of the three to be valuable over the seven year tenure.

Vlad chases so many crazy pitches it's not funny

Ok, i;m no huge baseball fan, and I know beltran went nutty in the playoffs, but was his regular season REALLY that great? Where didhe finish in MVP voting? ANd what ar ethe chances he is a flash in the pan if he has little prior success?

You also have to remember that Beltran will be playing the next couple years as a Met, so he will have to suck.

MLB which player would you want over the next 7 years

Give me all the releif pitchers you can find. Why?
Today's starters go 6 innings and give up 4 runs.

Ask yourself this, after Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson and Greg Maddux retire...who will be the next 300 game winner?

I'm afraid we may not know that answer for another 10-20 years.

Tom Glavine (if he wasn't a Met)

I like Vlad a lot, but in THIS poll, talking about the next 7 years, it's no contest, with Vlad having a recent back injury and being way closer to his early-mid 30s during the contract.

Beltran would be 3rd for me. I like him, but I still think he's just slightly overrated, mostly because of the playoffs. Scott Boras does it again though, gets the big contract - and there were NO other teams bidding after the Astros dropped out.

this post makes no sense.

First off, I'd give Randy Johnson an outside chance to win 300. Same goes for Tom Glavine, although he's closer.

There's only been 22 300 game winners ever, so it's not like there were always seven or eight hanging around in past decades.

When Nolan Ryan retired in 1993, you could have asked the same question that you are now. You wouldn't have been able to answer Roger Clemens or Greg Maddux (well maybe Clemens), but here we are and they've both made it.

As long as we see the league leaders getting more than twenty wins in a season, we'll see the occasional 300 game winner.

And since you want names, how about Bartolo Colon, Mark Prior, Johan Santana, Roy Oswalt, Tim Hudson, and Carlos Zambrano. Everyone of those guys could get there if they had a long and successful career.

This poll is for the next 7 years not the past 5. There is almost no chance Vlad will make it through the next 7 years healthy. Given his chronic and nagging injuries, I doubt he will even still be playing in 7 years. For that reason he finishes third. Pujols is far and away the best choice and I don't think that needs any explaining.

There is something about the Mets organization that makes the management all screwed up. Omar Minaya is the latest victim. I don't understand how anyone could justify Beltran as a $20m/year guy. The signing of Pedro was OK. He is still a stud and has a few good year left in him. The word is that Minaya wanted to assume the Sosa contract really bad but he got vetoed by cooler heads within the Mets.

I agree. They will be an extrememly interesting team to watch this year, I will admit. On paper, they have a ton of talent, and if Reyes stays healthy, Matsui adjusts to the NL better, Wright has a solid soph campaign, etc, etc, they could be good.

Then again, this seems to be true in the East every year, and the Braves still win.

The Mets are about to get their own TV Netowrk, which means... lots and lots of extra revenue. 17 mil a year is overpaid, but it's not gonna put a dent in their checkbook.

Yes. Very confident. The guy went to High School here, man. Why would he lie to make himself look younger to go to High School?

PUJOLS.

I don't know why people are going ga-ga over Beltran.

The guy hit like .267 last year.

I'd much rather have a guy like Guerrero than Beltran, because Guerrero can be counted on to hit at least 50 points higher.

And Pujols is just fantastic for being so young.

Beltran ain't worth 17 million a year.

Yanks were smart to not get in the race for him. It was priceless, though, hearing how Scott Boras called the Yankees and BEGGGED them to make an offer.

Boras: Oh please, Yankees, come and bid on my boy wonder so I can jack the price up on him.

The fact that one of the biggest dumbass franchises in baseball believed he had a permanent back ailment doesn't make it true. Vlad has had one season in the last seven where he hasn't reached 570 AB's.

None of the above. as a teammate, I'd take Kris Benson. then, on the road, I'd throw groupies at him in every city.

Beltran is consistent. Consistently mediocre. How any team can get a hardon over a guy with a .267 batting average is beyond me.

Vlad would be my second choice, and Beltran third.

It has to do with his .367 OBP and his .548 SLG. Not to mention his fine CF work.

BTW, over the next seven years I'd want:

Pujols
A-Rod
Rolen
Helton
