Ummm...Braves still (somehow) take the East. Over/under: 6.5 games.

isn't there a team in MLB that does this every year? Spend a crap load of money on big name players and then underachieve each and every year? I think there is. Which team is it though, I keep forgetting.

Oh yes, the Mets. So what?

precisely. The Mets blow a lot.

they'll be pretty decent this year. it's not just spending a lot of monye. Beltran is an absolute stud.

he's also a good trader. definitely topticked the free-agent market, it was like a perfect storm for a career 2whatever hitter...

IMHO, the Mets overpayed. Betran is getting more than Pujols, who is younger and arguably as talented.

Whatever, I guess they did it for credibility, and their worst move was signing Martinez for 4 years. I mean, that was just stupid. The guy has a torn shoulder for christ's sake.

Either change the word "arguably" to "unarguably", or "as" to "more" and I'll nod my head.

As for Pedro...this Boston fan is giggling right now.

Beltran: .284 career average, .267 last season with a .915 OPS (that's pretty sick), .88 something career OPS... great fielder, great speed.

Pujols: .331/1.015 last season, .333/1.037 career. Has improved as a fielder and is a certified stud.

I'd take Pujols all fucking day.

Did the Yankees stop frothing over this guy because they realized he's a .267 hitter who had a ludicrously hot playoffs in '04 (a contract year)??

I don't think he's going to prove worthy of that contract at all.

[/ QUOTE ] in all honesty, I don't think the Yankees could afford him.

For everyone who said Beltran would be in pinstripes next year, I guess you were right, but just not the ones you thought. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yes, my grammer is lacking due to my job sucking the will to live directly out from my ear...causing me to type carelessly. Also, my job involved working with languages other than english for a good part of the day, further demolishing my grammar...anyway...

Pujols is far superior and its not even close. I see Beltran as the type to lose motivation after getting his contract, as he did after winning his ROY award. Before this past season he had a "slacker" label...
