So anyways a few months ago I was whining about how I might lose my job. I'm still here. I woulda been long gone by now if I hadn't lost nearly my entire bankroll on an absolutely brutal run of bad luck and playing at too high of limits. Oh yea and throw in some completely unnecessary discretionary spending as well. I know, I know, I'm a friggin poker cliche.

So now I have to put up with my friggin supreme idiot boss for another few months at a minimum. I could go on and on about idiot stories but this recent little nit really has me peeved. Our office is a full service lease. That means the landlord pays the heating bill. Our office also has very high ceilings and an antiquated ventilation system. This means it takes 5 hours for the place to warm up after you turn on the heat. It's been colder than a witch's tit here for the past week and every friggin night my boss turns the thermostat all the way down. It's getting to the point where I might have to wear long underwear to work. And it's completely not necessary if we would just leave the the thermostat at 70 all the time. Anyway, that's my my little office space rant for the day. Let's hear yours!

That sucks, sometimes my building is freezing like that, but that's because the stupid heater breaks all the time (my boss doesn't own the building though).

My boss is actually pretty cool, he bought me lunch today for no reason. And coincedentally, my wife's boss bought her and her coworkers all pizza today too. Both for no reason. Plus other stuff, I'd say my boss is pretty cool.

I'm self employed now but 20 years ago I was working at a fine dining restaurant as a waiter. On this one day the owner decides to give me crap because I had the sniffles. He tells me the customers can hear me so its obviously not good...I naturally agree.

Five minutes later, im taking an order from a table clear across the dining room and the boss lets out this loud cough. Not just a regular cough, mind you, but the mind blowing spit up the phlegm clear your throat kind.

What an a$$hole. Here he is bitching to me about my sniffles and he has the whole dining room grossed out with his phlegm stuck in his throat.

Go figure. I could go on all day about that guy. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

My boss bowls in a bowling league with me. He also falls on the floor 3 times and spills drinks on himself while trying to pick up 19 year olds piss drunk at a bar. Mind you he is 51 and is going through a mid-life crisis (see: moving out, getting seperated, trying to feel accepted)

We know that QLC message board, is there any message boards for MLC that I could send him a link to? /images/graemlins/cool.gif

I had a busboy job in highschool with a nightmare boss. She owned the joint and had a daughter who was one year younger than me and went to the same highschool. One day the boss calls me in to the office and asks me to take her daughter to the prom. Gawd that was fckin funny and uncomfortable at the same time. Another time I went into the office to get my paycheck. It was right after MLK day. She starts in on this rant about the "Gdam niggers day off". That was just plain highly uncomfortable.

My first full time job I worked for a woman I refered to as "The Troll". Anyway part of my responsability was to do the UPS shipments everyday. When you filled out the paperwork you had to estimate a cost of the package for insurance purposes. One day I under estimated a package by a stagering $5. I get called into her office where she chews me out for not being careful and "it's not the amount, it's the principal"...blah blah blah...

After about 5 minutes of this I get bored and pull a fiver from my pocket and throw it on her desk. I say "Can I go now?"

The look on her face was just priceless. I didn't last very long after that incident.

I consider it the best $5 I have ever spent /images/graemlins/grin.gif

My boss is the man. I worked for a lot of people and he is by far and away the best. The only crappy thing is being 24 and him being 51 out in a bar. Seriously, I have to take his keys and put them in my pocket and not let him attempt to drive home. I swear, its like babysitting sometime. The age isnt the issue, its the fact when this goes on at 3 in the morning, and I am in charge of him, and 5 hrs later I am reporting to him in his office.

FWIW, he is a HORRIBLE wingman /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

did you take the daughter to the prom, and if so did you hit it afterwards?

I lied and said I already had a date. The daughter was a nice person and not ugly but she wasn't my type. Not even close to my type. Anyways I wasn't the prom type. I went my senior year because I figured it was my last chance. I ended up with one of the "popular" girls. It was a date of total convenience for both of us. Try as I might I did not get a piece that night and I'm still bitter about it.

My last four jobs (all gaming), I've started at entry-level and worked my way up to lower management.

The first three were in sportsbooks. When I left each job, many of my crew would tell me that they were sorry to see me go, that I was the coolest boss they ever had.

The most recent was in poker. The dealers spent all their time bitching about me (just like they had about all of the people who had come before me), and when I gave up in frustration and went back to dealing, only one of thirty said that he was sorry to see me go.

Either I've forgotten how to take care of the people who work for me, or poker dealers are an odd group.

And don't try to say that they're NOT odd: where else would people show up to work three hours early to sign the "EO List"?

Since the search function sucks, I can't find my thread where I told my old boss 'later'. You would've really enjoyed it.

The title was something like "Showdown with the boss..." I think.

I had two bosses who squandered a $6 MM investment in 6 months and canned everyone's asses the week after Christmas.
