So I heard on the radio the other night that some kid "discovered" that some band named Nickelback ripped off one of its own songs and released the rip off on a new album. Why is this surprising?
Contemporary big-label music is all formula. Find a sound that works and beat it to death. I would bet that the major labels have a recipe for what makes a hit (cord progressions, bass line, intonations....). Is it such a surprise that this band got lazy and stuck with the formula?
There's a reason why so many bands/songs sound alike. Just add water.
Never heard the band, by the way.
